"To miss it is to miss the beauty of illustration for half a century" finally failed to resist such attractive propaganda and bewitch. On the reunion day of Mid-Autumn Festival, our family of three walked into the National Museum of Classics in Beijing and visited the 5th Anniversary Exhibition of International Andersen (Lifetime Achievement Award) and the World Illustration Exhibition being held there. Twenty-five international Andersen Prize illustrator winners and 3 original works came across the ocean, which brought us a lot of longing and expectation.
Standing in front of the National Museum of Classics, we were first attracted by a huge step painting. This is an illustration of Ugly Duckling, which covers almost the whole step in front of the museum, and there is an icon of illustration exhibition in the upper left corner. Such a huge painting made us excited at once, and the children skipped up the stairs with their father.
The entry security check is very strict. Food and drinks are not allowed to be brought in, nor are iron boxes of chewing gum. You should keep your backpacks. However, after the introduction, the huge publicity board still attracted a lot of attention. The organizer chose the most famous gorilla in the picture book industry (the protagonist of anthony browne's works) as a publicity poster, which was very eye-catching. The gorilla's mouth was raised, her eyes were sad, and there was a cute kitten sitting on her head. The picture was very vivid. Children don't like dark gorillas and refuse to take pictures. We go straight to the ticket office. The package for two is 147 yuan, and the ticket for children is 55 yuan. Children are free of charge in many places because they are less than 1.2 meters, which always makes her sad. This time, she is very excited to have her own children's ticket.
Before entering the exhibition hall, I was attracted by a row of portraits of Andersen's illustrator award winners on the wall. Each of them was marked with the award-winning year and representative works. These painters from different countries were unfamiliar to the children, and the names that were difficult to remember, but the children found the names of many classic picture books she had seen, such as Frog Frog, The Magical Color Queen, Xiaokai's Home is Different, Three Robbers, etc.
In order to prevent children from skimming through it, I specially bought a brochure for 2 yuan, where every place I visited will have a button, and children can operate it by themselves. However, children will not listen to the arbitrary arrangements of adults. After entering the exhibition hall, she went straight to the sculpture of Frog Frog. The children have been fascinated by the book Frog Frog's Growth Story for a long time. The little frog in striped pants in the book attracted her deeply. She once made me read 12 books at one go. The author of this set of picture books is Max Versius from the Netherlands. Unexpectedly, faced with the master's original works, the children swept away and went straight to the interactive experience area, where there was a big screen, and they could freely choose illustrations and fill in colors at will. However, the children found it interesting and played it again and again. While the children were enjoying themselves, I carefully watched the original works. The pictures were bright and colorful, without much painting skills, and they were simple and unpretentious. It was this well-known little frog that infiltrated many important life propositions to the children, such as friendship, love, life and the world, and soothed the hearts of growing children.
I didn't expect that among the works of these illustrators, there were works that were once banned, such as The Beast Country. When I opened the reading record two years ago, it was written impressively: The children were not afraid of these strange beasts with blue face and fangs at all, but happily named them, and she also strongly demanded to buy a set of wild wolf clothes with tails like Michaels (the name of the protagonist in the book). I can imagine how much children liked this book at that time. It is such a book that was once banned in the library, but good books will eventually be found. In 197, maurice sendak's name was included in the list of Andersen Illustration Awards. When we walked into the original works and really watched the original works, we felt that the paintings were very meticulous and exquisite.
In addition to works being banned, there are also authors being banned. tomi ungerer from France won the Illustrator Award in 1998. Because of his creation of all is forgiven, his children's books were banned in American libraries for more than 2 years. The book we are familiar with is his "Three Robbers", which children have been leafing through the other day. At that time, I was a little puzzled that although the ending of this story was warm, the robbers were evil and dark after all. But the children actually like this book very much. In this exhibition, she stopped for a while in front of the original book and asked me how those blues were painted.
There are many works by anthony browne in this exhibition, such as The Gorilla, The Voice in the Park, Willie the Dreamer, etc. Because children don't like dark and fierce gorillas, we haven't read many of these books yet, but in this exhibition, children found the subtlety of this surrealist master, and the little details hidden in the book by the painter deeply attracted her. "Mom, that gorilla wore a pair of banana shoes." That microphone turned out to be a banana. "The closer you look, the more interesting you will find. It seems that we will like gorillas in the future, and this series of books can be borrowed.
There are many works by masters in this exhibition, some are familiar and some are unfamiliar, but you can follow the map and leave it for your children to enjoy reading in the future. Together, we made a simple list of books: Gorilla Series, Loud Mom, Mr. Moon, Picture Book of Travel, White Horse of Su He, Children in the Marsh, Little Charcoal Burner, Bear with Ears, Fantastic Animals, and so on, so as to keep it simple.
Out of the exhibition hall, some picture book works were displayed at the corner. Many of them were not sold separately, but 5 books were sold as a whole as the theme of this exhibition. After the discount, they cost more than 3, yuan. I looked through it carefully. This set of books is from a publishing house in Taiwan Province, and the whole book is in traditional Chinese characters, which is not suitable for children in literacy period. Fans can collect it. In the souvenir area, we chose a picture book with the illustration of Ugly Duckling as a souvenir.
The two exhibition halls of this exhibition are not big. We spent nearly two and a half hours, some of which were played and some of which were watched, and the children learned something by reviewing the old ones. Personally, although I am not very proficient in painting, I feel pious when I see the paintings of the masters. They take every stroke of each painting seriously. Take those gorillas for example. When we look closely, we will find that among the tens of thousands of hairs, each one is painting seriously, without any scribbling and perfunctory.
Praise life with art. After the 5th anniversary of Andersen's Illustrator Award, we feel the innocence and beauty of the world. Those exquisite paintings will be transformed into a force of love and injected into children's hearts, becoming a belief. What do you think of the International Andersen Prize World Illustrator Exhibition without a treasure book?
On October 4th, the old mother of literature and art, thinking that the National Day travel peak had been perfectly staggered, proposed to go to the Maritime World Culture and Art Center to watch the International Andersen Prize Illustrator Exhibition.
however, no one responded.
The elder sister looked at her younger brother: "The picture book illustration exhibition is so boring for primary school students. Let's go and see it!"
the younger brother looked at his mother with a puzzled face: "hmm, hmm ~ what exhibition?"
My mother was ready to dig out the poster "Ugly Duckling" in the illustration exhibition:
My brother and sister were immediately moved: "Ugly Duckling, I want to go, I want to go!"
So, my mother took her brother and sister to the illustration exhibition with pleasure.
actually, mom came prepared this time. Ever since I heard about this exhibition from my friends, my mother has done a lot of homework in advance, not only knowing the exhibition strategy of local art education institution entertainer Mima by heart, but also finishing the Picture Book Collection compiled by Denise, a famous American early childhood educator.
I fantasized that my mother was talking about the classic works of various illustrators in front of the two children Kan Kan in the exhibition hall, and my old mother couldn't help but be satisfied.
walked into the exhibition hall, disillusioned. However, I saw the old mothers who took great pains in literature and art, crowded in front of the painting and anxiously called for the baby: "Come and see, come and see, isn't this your favorite picture book illustration?" But Xiong Haizi turned a deaf ear, clustered in several interactive areas, rolling up and down, pushing and shoving.
my baby, of course, is no exception.
as soon as my mother told my brother and sister not to get separated, my brother rushed into the interactive area. Mother had to leave her sister behind, and after successfully chasing and intercepting her, she led her brother to find The Ugly Duckling.
While my younger brother was staring blankly at the painting, my mother quickly opened the collection: the author Robert Yingpan, a master of realistic illustration in the southern mainland, is good at telling stories in a delicate and realistic style.
Before I finished reading the collection, my younger brother was tired of watching the ugly duckling and started a full-court interactive game with his works.
Interaction with the works of Russian folk art alchemist Tagina Marina:
Interaction with the works of elegant Austrian picture book queen Lisbeth Zweig:
Electronic screen graffiti:
From this point of view, it is very beneficial to often take children to see the exhibition. My younger brother, who used to run around everywhere, has now progressed to the stage of natural integration of posing and scenes.
When my brother was exhausted from interaction, my sister who was watching the exhibition alone found us: "Mom, let's go, I have finished reading all the works."
is this the end? No, my mother smiled awkwardly and kindly. It's time to start the collection: "How, which masters do my sister like best, take us to see?"
My sister nodded and led us to Mr. Rabbit and the Beautiful Gift. This is the work of maurice sendak, a famous children's literature picture book writer and illustrator, with beautiful and delicate painting style. He has won the Cadillac Award, the highest honor in American picture books, for five times, and is also the first American to win the International Andersen Illustrator Award.
Sandak, who was sickly in his childhood, reflected all kinds of complex emotions such as anxiety, fear and frustration in his picture book creation, which was a subversive revolution at that time. The Beast Country, Rhapsody in the Kitchen Night, and Far Away, the three representative works of Sondak's own eyes received mixed praise at first.
The Beast Country was once banned in the library, but it was later adapted into an animation and musical, which became a highly respected classic and was hailed as "a strange and unprecedented picture book". Some psychological researchers interpret Max's image in The Beast Country by combining the archetypes of Jung's personality theory, such as ego, shadow, personality mask and Anima.
Seeing the image of the beast in the illustration on the spot is quite scary, just like a nightmare when I was a child, while Max, the hero, is carefree:
Knowing the terrible childhood that maurice sendak once had, it seems that we can further understand the meaning of the work: a child gradually learns to overcome his fear during exploration.
"What really shapes us is the child that few of us have the courage to face-the impatient and demanding child long before the enlightenment reaches your heart, the child who wants love and rights, is never enough, and is always angry and crying." Maurice sendak's words may be the original intention of his creation of a series of classic works.
My sister's favorite second master is anthony browne, a surreal child psychological spokesperson.
anthony browne, classified as a British surrealist painter, won both the International Andersen Illustrator Award and the British Kate Greenway Award for his achievement in picture books. His works are neat in composition, bright in color, and good at creating drama by contrast, with surreal elements.
Willie, the coolest orangutan, is the most popular character in anthony browne's works. "Willie" has all kinds of expressions that children are familiar with, such as anger, sadness and joy, just like the spokesperson of children's emotional psychology. Another poster of this illustration exhibition is taken from his famous picture book Gorilla and Little Star in 28.
anthony browne said, "For me, designing a picture book is like making a movie. The structure of the book is a combination of close-up and vision. And my job is a combination of talent (adventure) and thinking, and it is difficult to separate the two. "
Seeing that the two children were fascinated, the mother continued to talk: "Every illustration is a work of art. An illustrator can't make a successful work only by painting skills. He also needs to deeply understand the children's spiritual world.
Moreover, a classic illustration will transcend national boundaries and times.
Next, let's take a look at Mom's favorite master! "
My mother's first favorite master was Scandinavian naturalist Svan Ott.
Swan Ott's paintings have a fresh breath, and the layers created by transparent watercolors are subtle and rich, just like the cold air in the Nordic countries. Just like facing the fog or warm sun in the forest, it reveals clean light, and the realistic scene also exudes ethereal artistry.
Svan Otto draws illustrations for Andersen's classic fairy tales, such as Thumbelina and Ugly Duckling. He is especially good at capturing melancholy, sadness or humorous scenes in fairy tales and describing them with fresh brushes.
My mother's second favorite master is the elegant Austrian picture book queen Lisbeth Zweig.
In p>199, Lisbeth Zweig won the "International Andersen Award" at the age of 36. The sentimental feelings of beauty, fantasy, grotesque and pleasure are mixed with action, dance, nature and fantasy, all of which add up to make Zweig's art. There is a dreamy quality in her paintings, which is magical, but subtle and elegant.
When my mother was a child, domestic picture books had not yet started, and most of my peers had not been exposed to the concept of picture books, and basically jumped directly from picture books to text books. The most impressive childhood memories are the illustrations in Andersen's fairy tales and Grimm's fairy tales. Those beautiful princesses, dreamy scenery and touching stories give us great courage to pursue the beauty that the real world can't see.
under the banner of sharing our favorite illustrator, we turned the illustration exhibition hall carefully again. Finally, the children reluctantly left the exhibition hall with infinite expectations for the works of master picture books.
Eggs at the end of the text: The Book of Picture Books reveals the secrets of picture books
1. What is a picture book?
picture books, that is, picture books, are taken from the name of picture books in Japanese. Picture book is a work of art, which narrates by illustrations and words, shows the scene by facing pages, and presents the dramatic effect by turning pages.
the world's most famous picture book award, the Cadillac Award, defines the picture book standards as follows:
2. Is a book with illustrations also a picture book?
Picture books in a broad sense include books with illustrations, but the picture books we usually refer to are different from story books with illustrations, and generally refer to picture books in which pictures are more important than words and pictures dominate narration.
3. Why do you want to read picture books? Does reading text books or inserting books have the same effect?
Picture books can not only promote children's reading and writing enlightenment, increase children's aesthetic experience and artistic experience, but also develop children's visual literacy. The development of visual literacy can't be achieved by written books or inserted books, and it is easy to be ignored by us.
4. What picture books do you choose to read?
method 1: read all the works of a writer.
Method 2: Select 1 or more works with the same theme/genre.
mode 3: select the place.
