Wuxing County: Wuxing County during the Three Kingdoms period. It is equivalent to the area from Lin'an in Zhejiang Province to Xuanxing in Jiangsu Province.
The origin of "Wen" comes from
The surname Wen (W?n Wen) has a pure origin and comes from one source: from the compound surname The Wenren family is a descendant of Shaozhengmao during the Spring and Autumn Period. Shaozhengmao was a native of Yelu in the late Spring and Autumn Period. He is knowledgeable and well-known. Some of his ideas were inconsistent with Confucius. He once gathered people to give lectures and sang opposites to Confucius, which caused many of Confucius's disciples to go to Shaozhengmao to listen to the lectures. Later, Confucius used his power to kill Shaozhengmao. Because Shaozhengmao was a person with great reputation at that time and was known far and near, he was known as "Wenren", so some of his descendants changed their surname to Wenren. Later, some Wen people's compound surname was changed to the single surname Wen, which was called Wen surname.
The ancestor was given the surname
Shaozhengmao (see above). Some pre-Qin classics mention that Confucius killed Shaozhengmao, while others do not record it. In this way, whether Confucius killed Shaozhengmao has become a question for later generations. According to "Gouzi Youzu", it is said: Confucius served as Lu's prime minister, and for seven days, he executed Shaozhengmao. The disciples came in and asked, "Young Master is right at Mao. When Lu Zhi heard about people, Master started to punish them for the sake of government. Is there anything gained or lost?" ?Confucius said: ?Home! I am telling you why. There are five evil things in people, but stealing is not the same: the first is to have a clear mind and be dangerous, the second is to be bold and firm in action, the third is to speak falsely and argue, the fourth is to remember ugliness and be rich, and the fifth is to follow the wrong and be wise. If one of these five is present in a person, he will not be exempted from execution by a gentleman. But if a person has both positive and negative traits, he must not be punished. Sima Qian's "Historical Records: The Family of Confucius" says: "(Lu) In the fourteenth year of Duke Dinggong and the fifty-sixth year of Confucius, the great minister Kou Xing acted as the prime minister. So Shaozhengmao, the Lu official who was disrupting the government, was punished. ?In other words, Confucius had only been in the Lu State for seven days when Sikou acted as prime minister. He killed Shao Zhengmao, the then official of the Lu State. The reason was that Shao Zhengmao had committed five kinds of evil deeds and had gathered people at home to preach heresy. , sensationalizing, is already a hero among villains, so he must be killed. Later books such as "Yin Wenzi", "Shuo Yuan", and "Confucius Family Sayings" all quoted "Xunzi" and believed that Confucius killed Shaozhengmao. However, Zhu Xi of the Southern Song Dynasty believed that Confucius did not kill Shaozhengmao. As soon as this was said, many scholars agreed. The main reasons are: 1. Most of the works of various scholars are fables, which are not trustworthy. "Zuo Zhuan", "Guoyu", "The Analects of Confucius", "Mencius", etc., which were written earlier than "Xunzi", do not mention this matter, and "Zuo Zhuan" and "Guoyu" often make false accusations against Confucius. This matter is not mentioned, which shows that there is no such thing as Confucius killing Shaozhengmao in history. Second, Confucius had only acted as prime minister for seven days. It was impossible for a doctor to kill another doctor. Third, Confucius advocated benevolence and resolutely opposed killing people easily. When Dr. Lu proposed the idea of ??"Killing without morality, there is morality", Confucius expressed his opposition. The killing of Shao Zhengmao was inconsistent with Confucius' consistent thoughts. The above two theories are each valid and have been passed down to this day. So, did Confucius kill Shaozhengmao? There is a heated debate in the academic community about the authenticity of this matter, and each side has its own opinion. Both sides have quite a lot of arguments, making it difficult to draw a convincing conclusion.
Migration distribution
The surname Wen is not among the top 100 surnames in both mainland China and Taiwan. During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a famous scholar in the State of Lu named Shaozhengmao. He lectured and practiced knowledge. He was a very famous person at that time and was called "Wen Ren" (Wen means Wen Da in ancient Chinese, which means famous). His descendants were proud of him and took "Wenren" as their surname, calling them Wenren's surname. Later, the Wenren family simplified their surname to Wen, and it was passed down from generation to generation, thus forming the surname Wen. According to records in ancient books such as "Customs of Customs" and "Manuscripts of Words and Deeds of Mingxian Clan", the surname Wen originally came from Wen people, and was later changed to Wen. It can be seen from this that the single surname "Wen" and the compound surname "Wenren" are actually from the same family from the same father, but they have the Wenren surname first and the Wen surname later. In other words, the Wen surname is branched from the Wenren surname. So, did the surname Wen come about at the right time? According to textual research, it is speculated that it was roughly formed at the end of the Tang Dynasty and the beginning of the Song Dynasty, because, after looking through the relevant historical records, there were no records or activities of hearing the surname before then. The famous family lived in Wuxing County (today's Wuxing County, Zhejiang Province).
There is another group with the single-character surname Wen. After Wen Tianxiang (Guo Guogong) was defeated, his twenty-fourth son moved his descendants from Ji'an, Jiangxi Province to Xishui (Macheng) City, Hubei Province, and changed the name to Wen, and merged with Nanfang Wen. The difference between people's clan is that the descendants of this branch are taller. The idea that the name "Wen" was changed from "Wen" to "Wen" first appeared in the 46th year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1781). The first compilation of the Genealogy of the Wen Family: My surname is Wen, and I have lived in Luling, Ji'an, Jiangxi. In the second year of Jingyan of the Song Dynasty (1277), the army of the Duke of Xinguo was defeated in Kongkeng, and the ancestor Liangfu Gong was captured. He fled to Lanqingyi, Qi Province, and changed the name "Wen" to "Wen" because of his family. ?The Duke of Xin mentioned here is Wen Tianxiang, and Qi is today’s Xishui County, Hubei Province. For more than 700 years, the Wen family genealogy has adopted this theory, and the Wen family all consider themselves to be descendants of Wen Tianxiang. Most of the Wen Yiduo research community has also recognized this theory. However, in 1992, Wen Liming, the author of "The Biography of Wen Yiduo", questioned this issue with the rigor of a historian. He said: "This statement is difficult to verify, and the recorded time is 500 years ago (1277-1781). Whether what the genealogy says is true remains to be confirmed." ?Because ?Wen? is also a surname originally. Wen Yiduo himself was also interested in this issue. When he was studying in Tsinghua University, he wanted to write an article "An Examination of Wen's Virtues", but in the end due to insufficient information, he only wrote an inconclusive conclusion in his diary.
