Legal basis: Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC).
Article 102 A natural person enjoys the right to his name, and has the right to decide, use, change or allow others to use his name according to law, provided that it does not violate public order and good customs.
Article 1015th A natural person shall take his father's surname or his mother's surname, but in any of the following circumstances, he may choose a surname other than his father's surname and his mother's surname:
(a) Choose the surnames of other immediate elders;
(2) Choosing the surname of the supporter because of the support of a person other than the legal supporter;
(three) there are other legitimate reasons that do not violate public order and good customs.
The surnames of natural persons of ethnic minorities can follow their own cultural traditions and customs.
