Do you want to turn your hobby into a job?

Everyone has his own hobbies, and many people once dreamed of being able to do what they like and earn money by the way, that is, turning hobbies into jobs.

But there is also an argument that it is best not to turn hobbies into jobs. Hobbies are just an amateur pastime, and the result of turning them into work may be that even this hobby is gone.

I used to wander between the two, and I didn't know which was right and which was wrong. It was not until I finished reading this book "Nesting" by Tomoko Iwasaki that it suddenly dawned on me: those who dare to pursue self-worth must turn their hobbies into jobs. The reason why some people will disapprove is only because they are afraid. They are afraid that they can't cope with the difficulties, setbacks, tempering and failure they will encounter after they become jobs.

There is a story in Nesting:

The author, Tomoko Iwasaki, was born in Tokyo, Japan, and was particularly interested in wood since she was a child (it seems that many Japanese children like carpentry), so she studied forestry in college. However, after she studied this major, she found that her favorite wood work didn't seem to have much to do with her major in forestry. So when she graduated, she felt very confused and didn't know what she wanted to do. I happened to find a job in market research.

here, she is occupied by busy and trivial work every day. She is very busy, but she never feels full. A year later, she realized that she couldn't go on like this, and she had to do something she really liked. So she began to focus on her favorite field. But at that time, she was not very clear about which road she would take in the future. I just know a general direction: it must be related to wood, maybe it is to open my own furniture grocery store.

So after working in this company for two years, she left. After leaving her job, on the one hand, she took correspondence courses in universities to study furniture design, on the other hand, she took carpentry courses in vocational and technical schools to turn her designed furniture into objects.

That's not enough. In order to master all the skills needed to run a furniture store, she has worked as an intern in two furniture stores.

In the process of internship, because she often goes abroad to buy groceries, it makes her more and more aware of her lack of English ability. So in the final stage of her internship, she went to study in England for one year at her own expense.

In order to improve her foreign language ability better, she chose to live in an English home. In the host family, she met Latvia (a small country in the northeast of Europe), the source of groceries in her future shop. It turned out that the father of this family immigrated to Britain from Latvia in his twenties to escape the war of World War II. All kinds of Latvian folk small items displayed in his home deeply attracted the author's interest: this is the shop style she wants!

For example, wicker baskets that can be woven by hand for 1 years, linen bedding with super water absorption and excellent thermal insulation, and various small folk objects. She realized that it would be a very happy thing if these small things were sold in her own shop and surrounded by her favorite things every day!

after returning from studying abroad, he began to prepare for opening a shop.

choosing a furniture factory, choosing a shop, making a web page, applying for a business license, issuing a notice to open a shop, making a product advertisement ................................................................................................................................. I have never felt the fleeting time like this.

She named this shop "Nest Nest". The treasures sold are mainly divided into two parts: solid wood furniture designed by ourselves and various folk small objects purchased from Latvia. They are all things she likes. Whenever she sees that what she likes is also loved by customers, and a group of people with the same hobbies are gradually gathered around her, she feels extremely happy!

Now, she has been running the "Nest Nest" for 12 years. In these 12 years, her daily life is basically like this:

In the author's own words, since she opened the store for 12 years, various things have happened, and sometimes she feels that she is really beyond her power and wants to give up. However, compared with these difficult times, she is more willing to count the joys, joys, feelings and rejoicing over the years. She said that in this world, being able to try to do what you like is the greatest luxury and luck.

In addition, she shared a particularly useful method when she was wavering and undecided:

I wonder how you feel after reading the above story.

I deeply agree with the author's sentence: in this world, being able to try to do what you like is the greatest luxury and luck. To this end, I am also working tirelessly in the field of reading and writing that I love. I don't care much about the result. As long as I am doing what I like, I will feel happy and alive. As for those who are opposed to turning hobbies into jobs, they are completely no longer believed.

I hope you can follow the path you like.

PS: The "nest" described in The Story of Nesting is not only the furniture grocery store called "Nest" opened by the author, but also the author's own "nest"-home. The author personally renovated a 42-year-old house step by step into his favorite appearance. The book is illustrated, concise and practical. Interested readers may wish to read it.
