What is the difference between first name and family name?

The first one is called first name, which is equivalent to the Chinese "name", and the last one is the last name, which is equivalent to the Chinese "surname". The surname is unique to a family, so it is also called family name, and in English it is also called surname (sur- means "after", such as surfix, compare: prefix).

Chinese surnames come first, which is different from Westerners.

When introducing yourself, when you say My name is Zheng Liping, when you want to say my last name is Zheng, it is best to say: My family name is Zheng.

When saying: my last name, or surname, it will cause misunderstanding.

British and American names

(1) The order of British and American names is first name first and last name last, such as Herbert George Wells (Herbert George Wells) , the first and second words are the name, and the last word is the surname.

〔2) According to the British and American custom, when a baby is baptized, the priest or parents or relatives will give him a name and present it as his Christian name, which will be placed at the front of the name. In addition, elders or themselves can also give a second name after the given name. This is why British and Americans often have two or even more names.
