The design concept and meaning of Bingdundun Xuerongrong:
The Beijing Winter Olympics mascot "Bingdundun" is designed and created based on the panda. Ice symbolizes purity and strength and is a characteristic of the Winter Olympics. Dundun means honest, healthy, lively and cute, which fits the overall image of the panda and symbolizes the strong body, tenacious will and inspiring Olympic spirit of the Winter Olympic athletes.
The mascot of the Beijing Winter Paralympics "Xue Rongrong" is designed and created based on a lantern. Snow, symbolizing whiteness and beauty, is the characteristic of ice and snow sports. Rongrong expresses the concept of exchanges, mutual learning and harmonious development of world civilizations, and embodies the beautiful vision of creating a more inclusive world through the Paralympic Movement and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The story of Bingdundun Xuerongrong
During the mascot review process, the creative works of the candied haws were shortlisted in the top ten. This was the original design of Bingdundun, the mascot of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Source of creativity. This work comes from the design team of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
The original idea of ??the ice-shell panda came from the candied haws, "In fact, the candied haws was also called Tang Dun'er, and 'Dun'er' is a particularly interesting word. It has the characteristics of northern winter, and is also very friendly, like a neighbor." The children are also very healthy, lively and cute.”
Unlike Bing Dundun, the lantern shape of the Winter Paralympics mascot Xue Rongrong had a relatively clear idea from the beginning. This comes from Jiang Yufan, an undergraduate majoring in product design at the School of Design of Jilin University of the Arts, and his impression of the New Year flavor in his hometown.
When naming this work, considering the contrast with Bing Dundun, the word "snow" was used against the word "ice", which means "auspicious snow heralds a good year", and the lantern gives people a sense of warmth. In order to reflect the feeling of tolerance and communication, the words "containment" and "fusion" are used.
