Introduction: During the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, a baby boy was born in a farmer's family in Huaxian County, Guangdong. His parents named him Hong Xiuquan. He began to attend private school when he was 7 years old. His parents and relatives had high hopes for him, hoping that he would be able to obtain fame and honor his ancestors. Maybe he wasn't good at studying. He failed the exam three times and didn't even pass the exam. By chance, he got a copy of "Good Words to Encourage the World" and came up with the concept of believing in God and pursuing equality for all.
At that time, the Qing Dynasty was corrupt and incompetent, and people all over the world had already complained. Hong Xiuquan prepared to rebel against the Qing Dynasty in the name of worshiping God. Within a few years, a large group of people were gathered, including Yang Xiuqing, Feng Yunshan, Shi Dakai, etc. In 1851 AD, an uprising was launched in Jintian Village, Guangxi, and the Tianping Heavenly Kingdom was founded. Hong Xiuquan called himself the Heavenly King.
Due to the fierce fighting of the Taiping Army, they quickly captured the important town of Jiangning, renamed it Tianjing, and established its capital here. In the early days of the uprising, the Taiping Army had a female army composed entirely of women. They fought bravely on the front lines together with the male soldiers. Until Wuhan, men and women still had the same positions and officials. However, after establishing his capital in Tianjing, Hong Xiuquan thought that he had achieved good results and lived an extremely luxurious life. Like the ancient emperors, he began to select concubines for himself.
In fact, as early as the Jintian Uprising, he already had more than a dozen wives, all of whom were extremely beautiful beauties. As his territory expanded, the number of his wives further increased. In Wuchang alone, he selected 60 concubines at once, forgetting his old slogans. After occupying Tianjing, it was even more remarkable. Not only did they establish a concubine system, and they successively admitted thousands of concubines, they also set up "female officials" in the palace of the King of Heaven. Except for Hong Xiuquan, a man, all the people in the house were women, not even a eunuch.
According to incomplete statistics, there are at least more than 2,000 famous concubines in the Heavenly King's Mansion, plus the female officials who perform their respective duties. The later captured Young Heavenly King, Hong Xiuquan’s son Hong Tianguifu, wrote in his confession: “I am now sixteen years old. The old Heavenly King is my father. I have eighty-eight queens. When I was nine years old, he gave me four It can be inferred from this that Hong Xiuquan had a large number of concubines in his harem, which was even worse than those of the ancient emperors.
In 1864 AD, Hong Xiuquan died of illness in Tianjing City. Soon the Qing army broke into the city, which also marked the failure of the Taiping Rebellion. During the 11 years he took charge of Tianjing, he neither led troops to fight nor interfered much with government affairs. He only issued a dozen edicts with no technical content. Some people are wondering, what does he do most of the time? You can almost think with your toes that she must have been in the palace of the Heavenly King with many concubines.
What is the final outcome of Hong Xiuquan’s thousands of concubines? There are two reliable theories. First, he was punished by Hong Xiuquan's order for violating the regulations of the Heavenly King's Mansion. As the saying goes, the state has national laws and the family has family rules. In order to manage many concubines, Hong Xiuquan formulated many tortures. Once any concubine made a mistake, you can imagine the consequences. Second, they were persecuted by the Qing army that invaded the city. Most people died in the war, and some were kidnapped by the enemy.
