Why is Jugang named Juegang?

There are different opinions about the origin of the place name Juegang since ancient times. One theory is that in ancient times, although Jugang was located on the coast of the South Yellow Sea, there was no port to enter the sea nearby, so it was called "Quegang". The word "Que" was taboo for the world, so the homonym "Di" was used instead, hence the name Jugang; One story is that during the Dali period of the Tang Dynasty (AD 766 to 799), Li Cheng, the envoy from Huainan, was deposed to build a sea weir to block the tide. Although "Qin's disciples are absolutely capable of defending the sea waves" (as Mao Bolin, a Jinshi of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty) said, due to heavy rains, the inland rivers swelled and could not be discharged, causing floods from time to time. Then the weir was dug to release water, and when the tide came, it was blocked again, and the cycle continued. From this the name of Diggang spread. There are sufficient reasons for both theories, but they need to be further verified.

In short, the name of Diggang has a long history, and it has a history of at least more than a thousand years. During this period, there were the Jugang Pavilion of the Tang Dynasty, the Jugang Field of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, the Jugang City and Jugang District of the Republic of China, the People's Commune of Jugang Town after liberation and the establishment of the current Jugang Town. But the word "Digang" has not changed for thousands of years.
