The Gate of Star Film Company from 1922 to 1937
Around 1920, there was a strong trend of opening exchanges in Shanghai. Zhang Shichuan used the 2,000 yuan he needed to set up the Datong Exchange to cooperate with Zheng Zhengqiu, and made appointments with Zhou Jianyun, Zheng Partridge, and later Ren Jinping. The five of them pooled together tens of thousands of yuan and became known as the 5 Wan Capital took down the Datong Exchange sign and replaced it with another sign of "Star Film Co., Ltd." What was later known as China's oldest film company was thus hastily born. That was March 1922. After the establishment of "Star", it first opened a film school, firstly to cultivate talents, and secondly to arrange personnel transferred from "Datong". Filming started half a year later. At that time, there was not even a simple studio, so Lauro's small studio was rented to work in the open air.
