Putuo Mountain Travel Notes 2020

Mount Putuo is a tourist attraction full of humanistic characteristics and charm. It is also a holy land of Buddhism. Every day, tourists and pilgrims from all over the country come to pray for Buddha, pray for the common people, and feel the majestic vitality. and breath, I will share with you a detailed introduction below.

The good thing about Putuo Mountain is that if you walk without any purpose, you will always make new discoveries. People and vehicles are separated on the island, so pedestrians can walk safely in their own territory.

In this season, the sunshine is becoming more and more abundant, and the plants have accumulated strength throughout winter and spring, and they seem to bloom overnight. A moment ago it was the wilting state of early spring, but as soon as the sun arrived, plants as far as the eye could see towered into the blue sky. This is a mystery of nature.

The corridor between the Liuguan Pavilion and the Immortal Well in Mount Putuo

From north to south, panting up a steep slope, the sea suddenly opens up. Brush through the thick shade and block out the sun to rest. Further ahead, we can see the green tiles and yellow houses, the temples, and the ancient Buddha cave.

Sit west and face east, looking at the sea in front of the nunnery. There is no one in front of the nunnery. You can see the sea from a distance and listen to the sound of waves up close. It is just one lower and one higher than the Baotuo Temple complex. If you want to sum up the highlight in one sentence, it is that the ancient Buddha cave once had a physical Bodhisattva - three years after the founder Renguang passed away, his body was not broken. His disciples painted it with gold paint and enshrined it in the cave. The ancient Buddha cave Hence the name.

After the founding of New China, the ancient Buddhist cave was abandoned for half a century. After the mountain gate was reopened, the ancient meaning was gone. The appearance of the temple was brand new, and bright bonsai were added in front of the temple.

At the next stop, Baoyue Temple, I saw a bhikshuni sitting with someone on the bus stop talking about the epidemic.

Then we arrived at Feishao. From Hexing in the north to Mahayana Temple, this is the only fork in the road for nearly 5 kilometers, leading to Fanyin Cave and Shancai Cave in the east. During the Ming Dynasty's anti-Japanese war, Feisha'ao was a place where troops were stationed. It was known as the "desert on the island", so merchant ships have always mined sand here. In 1956, Putuo County Mining and Sand Company settled in Gufo Cave.

When we arrived here, it was almost the Dongtianmen of Mount Putuo. The excitement became more intense, and the light became brighter, shining brightly between the leaves of the reef. In front of us is the Xiangti Zen Monastery, which has been under construction but has not yet been opened. Opposite is a staircase. Although we are not sure whether it can lead directly to the beach, we can't stand the softness of the fallen leaves.

The original site of Hangti Zen Forest is also the northernmost point of Qianbusha.

There is a screen wall under the steps, engraved with "Namo Guanyin Bodhisattva", written by Wang Yiting, a calligrapher and painter of the Republic of China. There is a stele pavilion of the Fifth Ancestor below. The Five Patriarchs of the Pure Land Hall of Gangti'an refer to the "Five Patriarchs" among the people. From left to right, they are Patriarch Chunyang, Patriarch Bodhidharma, Amitayus, Guanyin Bodhisattva, and Patriarch Nanping. The portrait is 1.65 meters high and 0.84 meters wide. , also painted by Wang Yiting. In 1988, this pure stone building was listed as a municipal cultural heritage.

Facts have proved that you can reach Qianbu Beach by going down the steps. There is a stone with the words "Looking at the Sea" and "Listening to the Tide" written on the front and back. When you look up, you can see the Pavilion looking at the sea. People generally define the 1,750-meter-long beach from Wanghai Pavilion to the north of Jibaoling as Qianbu Beach, which is the longest and largest beach in Mount Putuo. To the south of the island, past Chaoyang Gate, is the Baibu Sand Beach, where you can swim and serve as a beach.

Thousands of steps in the afternoon are as green as gold, broad, soft and elastic. Some people say that Qianbusha is suitable for morning exercises because there is a Sun View Pavilion in the south. According to "Putuo Mountain Chronicles": Chaoyang Cave is at the end of Jibaoling. The cave is deep and dark, and the huge rocks outside the cave are staggered and piled into the sea. There used to be Chaoyang Cave Temple above the cave. In 1992, Chaoyang Pavilion, also known as Guanri Pavilion, was built on the original site with its cornices and raised corners. It was named "Chaoyang Cave" because it is said that when the sun rises, it first reflects in this cave. The huge rocks outside the cave are staggered, and the entrance of the cave faces the East China Sea, with hundreds of steps of sand and thousands of steps of sand on the left and right. When watching the sunrise in Mount Putuo, Chaoyang Cave is the best place to watch, so there is a saying that "the sun rises in the morning".

Most people have a fascination with "watching the sunrise". They worship Yang Qi and look forward to the auspicious golden light covering their whole bodies. Some people also choose to take a walk on Qianbusha after dinner, after all, they are busy worshiping Buddha during the day. Walking on Qianbusha at night, you can turn around and see the Xiangyun Road on Foding Mountain, which is as bright as a dragon. It is a sight that is not seen during the day. The good wishes people bestow on Qianbusha are still related to love. It is said that couples who walk hand in hand and walk Qianbusha can stay together for a lifetime.

There are not too many such stories, and they are not afraid of vulgarity.

Ancient Buddha Cave facing the sea

In the afternoon, Mount Putuo’s sky changed, and the mountains deep in the sand sea showed a deliberately low saturation. Friends who were watching Douyin quickly recognized the guy walking across the street carrying equipment. He was a streamer who was live broadcasting Putuo Mountain, so he got in front of the camera and greeted the viewers who entered the live broadcast room from the same city. After climbing to Guanri Pavilion, my friend chatted with three men who drove from Shandong and told them to be careful about snakes on the roadside. During this season, snakes begin to appear, mostly venomous.

From Mr. Guanri to Liuguan Pavilion, it leads directly to the Immortal Well. The double-jointed square-foot-shaped Liuguan Pavilion was built in 1983 and renovated in 1993. Yu Qiuyu wrote an inscription for it. The legend of the Fairy Well is that "the water in the well is sweet and delicious, and it never dries up in times of drought or overflows in times of floods. Pilgrims who pass by have to stop to take a sip of the fairy water." There is a small house next to the Immortal Well, with low thatched eaves and green grass on the stream. Every time I go there, I feel that it is a good and poetic house. It wasn't until this time that I discovered that it had long been turned into a small shop, selling jade utensils and providing a place for groups who needed to copy scriptures.

I don’t know how long it will take for me to think back to this Walden-like life from time to time. This is the quietest time in Mount Putuo. Any movement feels like vitality. Sometimes I go alone, sometimes I have a few friends. They think more deeply when they are alone, and acquire more information when they are with friends, and they also talk to various people passing by.

On the first half of March and 15th (mainly April 8th and 9th), everyone is sunbathing at the moon, although they are actually sunbathing on their mobile phones. The thousands of steps on the sand are dotted with tourists, and the moon and stars are visible to the naked eye, so you can take photos without editing.

The bright moon on the sea

The gravity of the moon causes tides in the sea. I have also seen a saying that it is better to sow seeds during the full moon. The soft moonlight will help the seeds germinate. The Putuo Mountain Scenic Area where the temple is not open is not officially open, and the street lights have not been turned on yet, but they are brightly illuminated by the bright full moon.
