In terms of the selection of navel orange varieties, Xinfeng introduced Washington navel oranges from Shaoyang, Hunan in 1971, which showed excellent traits. In 1979, Huazhong Agricultural University introduced 12 new navel orange lines from the United States and Spain. In 1981, Professor Zhang Wencai selected 8 of them for planting in southern Jiangxi. After more than ten years of testing, domestication and comparison in southern Jiangxi, excellent varieties such as Newhall, Pengna and Nevelina were selected that are suitable for planting in the warm and humid climate of the south. Later, in specific production practices, Newhall was favored by the majority of fruit farmers because it was superior to Penna and Nevelina in terms of fruit shape, color, and flavor, and became the main variety. The area of ??Newhall navel oranges accounts for 88% of the total area of ??navel oranges, while Penna and Nevelina only account for 8% and 3% respectively.
