The Xiyue Temple of the Three Holy Mothers

Folklore says that the Xiyue Temple was built for the Three Holy Mothers, the goddesses on Mount Huashan. She is smart, beautiful and kind-hearted. When there was a drought, she summoned the wind and rain, and when there was a flood, she used her strength to eliminate it. When the villagers came to ask her for help when they had problems, they all received their requests. All their requests came true when they drew lots and asked for divination. Under her care, the wind and rain here were smooth and the grain was plentiful. The people were very grateful to her and respectfully called her "Empress of Huayue Mountain". In order to repay her kindness, the people worked together to build a temple for her. As soon as the news spread, craftsmen from all over the world volunteered to repair the temple. However, no one could come up with a construction plan. When everyone was worried, they suddenly felt that the sky was dark, the cold wind was howling, and the snow was falling heavily. At this moment, a jade rabbit ran out of nowhere and played on the snow. Everyone came to catch the jade rabbit, but strangely, the rabbit suddenly disappeared. But where it ran, it left a clear picture of a palace. So, the craftsmen built a majestic temple according to this picture and named it "Huayue Temple".

One year, the emperor opened a subject to obtain scholars, and students from all over the world went to Beijing to take the exam. Among them was Liu Yanchang. When he passed by the Huayue Temple, it was already dark. He wanted to continue on his way. He learned that the three holy mothers in the temple were very efficacious, so he decided to ask for a fortune to inquire about his future. He prepared some incense watches, dressed himself and entered the temple gate. The hall was filled with incense and mist, and the three holy virgins were sitting cross-legged on the altar. They were dignified, beautiful, and lifelike. He was in awe, burning incense and praying. Then he drew lots very devoutly, but the three consecutive lots were all blank, and he couldn't tell. He couldn't help but feel angry. In a fit of anger, he wrote a poem on the wall to ridicule the Three Holy Mothers.

In fact, as soon as Liu Xiucai entered the temple, the Third Holy Mother knew why he came. When she saw Liu Yanchang, he was young, handsome, and dashing, she fell in love at first sight, and her heart was moved, but she did not dare to violate the rules of heaven. After thinking about it, she still couldn't make up her mind, until the scholar became angry and wrote a poem and left. She was anxious, thinking that although she was a god, she was subject to many constraints from heaven, and her life was very lonely and boring. If she married a mortal, wouldn't she be free and happy? Even if it breaks into pieces, it's worth it. So she cast a magical spell called Rainstorm, which caused the scholar to have a pouring rain on his head and a muddy road under his feet. After that, she put aside the storm and inspired a fairy villa. When Liu Yanchang went to stay, the three holy mothers showed up to greet him and entertained her warmly. This way, the immortals and Yifan became a happy couple.

People who visit Xiyue Temple can still see the lotus tube Liu Yanchang drew and the statue of the Three Holy Mothers.

The Xiyue Temple, under the Huashan Mountain, was first built during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. After successive generations of repairs, the scale has become increasingly large and the building is extremely magnificent. It covers an area of ??186 acres and is surrounded by high walls. There are two temples inside and outside the wall. The brick building is still very strong after thousands of years of wind and rain. After passing the Jincheng Gate, you come to the Haoling Hall, the main building in the temple. The first impression you get from the main hall is the grandeur. It is the top of the Seven Intersection Mountains, located on a large platform, and its architectural style is also very harmonious with the surrounding scenery.

There are many ancient cypresses and giant locust trees around the main hall. Looking at them, they are lush and lush. There is a poem that goes, "The old cypresses are chilly, and the clear words are silent during the day. Open the door to the north of Huashan, and the mist sinks in the west." "Describes the solemn and quiet environment of Xiyue Temple.
