I want to hike from Xining to Lhasa, but I don’t know the cost, what I need and what I need to pay attention to. Can anyone please give me some advice? The more detailed the better. Thanks in advance.

This is an extreme challenge. You should think twice before taking it, and you should form a team if you want to go. Here are just a few suggestions.

★Success Stories:

1. A young man from the port city "Cactus" and two companions completed an amazing feat. The three set out from Qinhuangdao, overcame difficulties and obstacles, and finally arrived on foot. The destination was Lhasa, Tibet. It passed through 7 provinces and two cities, covering a distance of more than 4,800 kilometers and lasting 134 days.

The name of the young man named "Cactus" is Zhao Zhiqiang. Because he loves outdoor sports and cactus is drought-resistant and has strong vitality, he named himself "Cactus". On the morning of April 28 this year, "Cactus" and two friends packed up their 40-pound bags containing tents, sleeping bags, medicines, headlamps and other items and set off on foot towards Lhasa. The three set out at 6 a.m. every morning and camped in the wild at 9 p.m., walking 30 to 60 kilometers a day in the inland plains, but in high altitude areas, they could only walk 20 to 30 kilometers a day.

In order to save money, the only food along the way was instant noodles, biscuits and military compressed biscuits. We drank river water and only occasionally borrowed boiling water from fellow villagers' homes. During this period, the three people traveled along the national highway through Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai and other places, and finally arrived at their destination of Lhasa, Tibet on September 8. The total journey was more than 4,800 kilometers and lasted 134 days. On September 30, "Cactus" and his companions returned to Qinhuangdao safely.

2. Wu Xiaodong, a 32-year-old boy from Lantian, completed the Beijing-Lhasa walking trip in 32 days. He started from Kunming on foot, passed through Chengdu, Xi'an, Harbin, Beijing, and finally arrived in Lhasa. He ran all the way for two months and covered more than 4,900 kilometers.

★Recommendations for hiking in Qinghai-Tibet:

1. A pair of good outdoor shoes (fully waterproof, because you sometimes have to walk on trails), and 2 pairs of good insoles (I choose the ECCO brand Insoles from men's shoes are sold in shopping malls in larger cities. I bought a pair of ECCO insoles and used them for 3 years. The price was relatively high (138, but definitely worth it).

2. A good backpack is a must. A good carrying system suitable for long-distance travel. I use the "OSPREY" recommended by a friend and it comes with a water bag.

3. Choose a good sleeping bag according to the season. It is best to bring an automatic inflatable sleeping pad in winter.

4. Replace 3-4 pairs of cotton socks and quick-drying outdoor socks (1 to 2 pairs); although quick-drying outdoor socks are good, they are more suitable for short-distance travel. Quick-drying outdoor socks are easy to use for long distances. Let your feet get blistered and prepare 1 to 2 pairs for emergency use

5. If you bring a camera, it is best to use a SLR, as other card machines are prone to crashing. Also prepare a camera companion.

6. Enough chocolate or sugar. When you feel dizzy at altitude, it is often due to lack of sugar in your body, not altitude sickness.

7. A dry towel is mainly placed behind the back to absorb sweat when resting. It is cold in the plateau and not drying the sweat during rest is not only uncomfortable, but also easy to catch a cold.

8. It is best to take a radiograph when you are treating a cold. A cold at a plateau can easily develop into pneumonia. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, treat it. Don’t waste time.

9. Hiking on the plateau consumes a lot of physical energy. Taking vitamins and ginseng lozenges every day is of great benefit to recovering and maintaining physical strength

★Things to note when hiking:

●Be fully mentally prepared before hiking in Tibet, eliminate fear, and have the confidence to conquer the plateau.

●Carry out various comprehensive adaptation training before entering Tibet.

●When you first arrive in the plateau area, do not walk quickly, let alone run.

●Stay away from tobacco and alcohol, drink an appropriate amount of water, and try not to rely on oxygen supply equipment.

●Ultraviolet rays are strong, so do not wear short-sleeved clothes, sweaters are necessary, and down jackets should be brought to keep warm in spring and autumn

●It is not advisable to enter when you are sick, tired, weak, or after drinking alcohol. Hide on foot.
