The term "Forbidden City" originally refers to the palace where the emperor of the previous dynasty lived. On October 10, 1925, the northern part of the Forbidden City was opened to the public after Feng Yuxiang drove away Puyi, and was named the "Forbidden City Museum". Since then, the Forbidden City has specifically referred to the Palace Museum in Beijing. Others with this name include the Shenyang Forbidden City (the Shengjing Palace of the Later Jin Dynasty) and the Nanjing Forbidden City (the Forbidden City of the early Ming Dynasty).
