Talk about Wulian Village (Part 2)

That year in Zhouyuan Wulian Village (Part 2)

The old Wulian School is located on the north cliff of the North Moat in Sanpangou Old Taicheng location above. The school covers an area of ??more than ten acres. It's about 100 meters from north to south and 120 to 30 meters from east to west. The school's gate faces north and is surrounded by earth walls. The classrooms in the school have four rows of large tile-roofed houses running north and south in the north. There is one large tile-roofed house oriented north-south in the middle of the west side of the school. In the middle of the school is an open school meeting place. Normally, people would line up here to have fun during meetings or after school early. In the middle of the east side of the school, there is a row of large tile-roofed buildings with two classrooms facing east and west. To the south of the school and to the east are two large classrooms oriented east-west, and in the middle is a large tile-roofed room oriented east-west. These three large tile-roofed rooms are the academic affairs office of the school. To the west, there are two large classrooms facing east and west. At the east wall of the school, there is an aqua toilet for students from the girls' north and boys' south. This solves the water and fire needs of each of our students during class breaks every day. (I clearly remember that at the east end of the school, the earliest theater in Sanpangou stood with its seats facing east and west. This old theater is not large, but its front stilts, cornices, and painted side columns appear antique.

The most unusual thing about this theater is that the stage is hollow, because there are several small rooms extending inward on both sides of the stage, and there is a pair of fans under the front stage in the middle. The wooden door is the corridor inside. It is said that it was the old school teacher's office in the early days. The stage is made of thick wooden floors. What's interesting is that every time the actor jumps and kicks, the wooden floor will make a special sound. I remember that in 1967, when I was five or six years old, I watched the Wulian Village Troupe's performance of "The Story of the Red Lantern". The sound of kicking and the flying of dust impressed me deeply. This theater was demolished before 1970 and was later built in the brigade yard in the north of the school. Behind the south row of classrooms in the east of the school. There are about seven or eight small rooms in the earthen buildings facing south and north, with old doors and windows, which are each teacher's single-room office and dormitory. Behind the south row of classrooms on the west side of the school, there is a narrow and long yard from east to west. There is an interesting thing in it, which is a place dedicated to feeding Heng Heng pigs. There are usually only three or two pigs in there. I remember when I was in third or fourth grade, two students in each class were responsible for feeding the pigs for one week. During morning exercises in the morning, other students went to do exercises, and the students on the pig feeding wheel boiled water, mixed the feed, and carefully fed the pigs. Then in the afternoon after school, feed the pigs once. This is a very interesting and happy activity. The students are all happy to work. From the smart growth of the pigs every day, they can feel the whole process of animal life and increase their ability to understand the world. Generally speaking, the building structure of Wulian School is relatively good compared with the conditions of schools in neighboring villages during the same period. I remember that except for the old temple classroom in the northwest corner, it had an old door and an old window. (This classroom was later reserved as a temple in Sanpangou) All the other classrooms have blue flat-tiled roofs, straight brick pillars, smooth earthen walls, bright glass windows on both sides and formal new-style room door. Of course, each classroom has two doors at the front and back to facilitate the evacuation of students.

In Wulian School, I paid two yuan for tuition when I was eight years old. When I entered the first grade in 1971, there was a junior high school and a primary school coexisting. The groups of students we had were during the baby boom period around the 1960s. Each family had three, four, five, six or even seven or eight children, so the students in this village had a lot to learn. I remember there were two classes in grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. There are forty to fifty children in each class. Now, a rough calculation shows that there are fifteen classrooms and fifty students in each classroom, which is a total of nearly seven hundred. It can be seen that the village school was a lively and energetic scene at that time. I remember that before the mid-1970s, class ranking was a military term. For example, the first class in the first grade is called Wulian School One Row, and the second class in the second grade is called the second row in the school. By analogy, the eighth grade class is called the eighth company and one platoon. How about it? Interesting. Later, it was changed back to a certain grade and a certain class. Wulian School was first built in the late 1960s and was demolished in the late 1980s. During the period of more than 20 years, he made the most fruitful, glorious, outstanding and outstanding contribution to the intellectual growth, physical health and intellectual growth of the young people of the same generation in the village.

You may remember from my reminder that our school has a hand-painted portrait of Chairman Mao that is two meters wide and three meters high. This image was made with exquisite strokes by a senior painter. Guan Jian's portrait of Chairman Mao is lifelike and beautiful. Every year when the entire commune holds a sports meeting parade, the procession will stride forward carrying a statue of Chairman Mao. Compared with the portraits of Chairman Mao from other schools, ours is the most realistic.

Also, when the commune-wide school sports games were held, our school was the first to purchase blue sportswear. Among the commune parades, our athletes were the most formal and dazzling.

In addition, Wulian School was also the first school in the commune to purchase waist drums for hundreds of people. In the whole commune parade, sonorous and powerful waist drum performances reflected the majestic appearance of Wulian Village.

Nowadays, the middle-aged and elderly people in Wulian Village have very good musical quality, and most of them can sing beautifully. In fact, the biggest music education training is inseparable from the cabinet organ and hinged accordion that the school had at that time. I remember He Xianglan, He Yuxiu, Lei Wuyi and many American music teachers whose names I can’t remember. They were all masters of organ playing. I have music class on that day every time I reach that grade. The teacher would say, you six go and bring the organ. So, a group of students happily ran out of the classroom, got into the organ storage room next to the school entrance, and hurriedly took out the heavy cabinet organ and carried it into the classroom. So the teacher sat in front of the organ and played the beautiful syllables of the songs he was teaching, and the whole class of us sang in unison. As a result, the seeds of music and the quality of music are filled into the hearts of every Wulian student day after day. Let us enjoy music for a lifetime!

As the last junior high school students in Wulian Village in 1981, we were fortunate to enjoy the complete learning process of primary and junior high school in his school. For us and for all the students who studied in Wulian Village School during this period, it left unforgettable warm memories and inexhaustible intellectual and spiritual wealth.

I keep this article because I am grateful to the respected teachers who worked hard to educate us every day, every lesson, every article, and every number for nearly ten years from elementary school to junior high school. They once earned the lowest-paying jobs, but they taught us the noblest, richest, warmest and most beautiful knowledge and energy. So that each of our students will benefit endlessly from their struggles in worldly affairs after they grow up and get married! I remember that the north gate of the school was originally a double door with a thick wooden fence. Later, it was replaced with a finely welded iron pipe mesh door. The younger children stepped on the gate from time to time and wandered back and forth for fun. Directly north of the school gate is an open playground. This field is seven or eight acres in size, and there are two wooden basketball boards corresponding to the north and south in the east and west parts. During the Cultural Revolution that year, sports in rural areas were still relatively active. Young people in the village would gather in groups from time to time, wearing tank tops and shorts to play basketball very nimbly. Of course, every morning students run for morning exercises, shouting one, two, three, four, and the sound of hundreds of people running is the march of youthful vitality. The school playground is square and square, with a cliff ditch to the east and a feeding area for the sixth team at the bottom of the ditch. Standing on the edge of the cliff, you can see the backs of horses, mules, cattle and donkeys. To the west of the playground is the miscellaneous yard of the fifth team, which is surrounded by an earth wall. Directly north of the playground is the lively courtyard of the village brigade headquarters. The courtyard of the village brigade headquarters is 70 to 80 meters square. To the south of the courtyard is a row of front houses. In the middle is a tall and large frame gatehouse. To the west of the gatehouse is the electric grinder of the brigade. It rumbles every day, grinding wheat into snow-white flour for the villagers. To the west of the mill are several large rooms. Vermicelli was once made there, also called braided vermicelli. The production team's red taro is crushed into starch, which is then made into very thick vermicelli. To the east of the gate tower is the brigade medical station. Medical treatment was very cheap at that time. Remember to register for five cents, and the doctor will give you a dozen or so large bottles of loose tablets, which will cure your headache and brain fever. If it gets a little heavier and is so soft that you can't walk, just give your butt a few injections of penicillin, streptomycin or flavomycin. After a week, you'll be relieved. This was the cheapest and most widely available agricultural combined therapy at the time. It has made great contributions to the primary health of farmers. Further east from the medical station is the Murakami Store. The store was not big, just two small rooms. It only contained oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, needles, thread, brains, matches, cyanoacrylate, and soap. Of course, there were pencils worth two cents, notebooks worth three cents, ball-point pens worth ten cents, and a bottle of ink worth two cents. This store is the only place to buy things in this large village of several thousand people.

After entering the gate of the brigade yard, we stood in the large and empty theater. Directly in front is a large theater building facing north and south. This is a tall and large new stage. The stage facade is decorated with style patterns from the Cultural Revolution period. I clearly remember that on both sides of the stage, there were colorful words "Unity and Tension" and "Serious and Lively". During the nearly 256 years from its construction in 1970 to its dismantling around 1995, this stage occasionally staged several modern revolutionary model plays performed by the village troupe in the early 1970s, or rural dramas. A new type of drama performed by the theater troupe. Or sometimes hold a Murakami political content promotion meeting.

Of course, the outdoor movies shown every month were quite attractive at that time. The west side room of the grand theater building is the brigade headquarters. The east side room is the brigade's scientific research room. This scientific research laboratory cultivated small batches of high-yield seeds for the farmland at that time. A certain amount of shallow technological elements were injected into the traditional old farming at that time.
