The original name of "Kuitun" is "Kalasu". Karasu is the Turkic KaLaSu, which means black water. A Western Expeditionary Army under Genghis Khan once visited here. It is said that an officer got up in the morning, sneezed several times, and then muttered: "Kuitun"! "Kuitun" means "extremely cold" in Mongolian, so people called this place "Kuitun".
