The "Maguai Festival" of the Zhuang people is the Frog Festival, and the Zhuang people use frogs as their totem.
It is divided into three stages: looking for Maguai, filial piety Maguai and burying Maguai.
On the first day of the first lunar month, everyone goes out to find Maguai. The one who catches it first will fire seven cannons to warn the world. He will be revered as Maguai Lang and become the leader of the festival. He will welcome Maguai back and seal it in his treasure. The coffin was then carried into the flower building and sent to Maguai Pavilion amidst the earth-shattering sound of bronze drums and firecrackers.
From the first day of the new year to the end of the month, it is to keep filial piety for Maguai, and at night, there is also a vigil for Maguai. After 25 nights of vigil, the frog is buried, chickens and ducks are killed, five-color rice is steamed, and after breakfast, it is sent to the cemetery for burial. The treasure coffin from the previous year is also opened, and the color of the antguai is used to predict good or bad luck.
Maguai Festival
This is an ancient festival spread in Donglan and Fengshan areas along the Hongshui River. Every year from the beginning of the first lunar month, there are three stages: looking for an antguai, filial piety for an antguai, accompanying an antguai, and burying an antguai, which last for a month. There are two stories about Maguai Festival. One of them says that a long time ago, a son devoured me and killed his mother to celebrate the New Year. Later, a man named Dong Lin came out who was filial to his parents. When someone came to kill his parents, he grabbed the knife and refused to let them go. Nor does he eat the flesh of other people’s parents. Later my mother died. He used a coffin to keep the body alive. The ant outside the house ignored Dong Lin's sadness and screamed in annoyance. In a fit of anger, Dong Lin poured boiling water on Maguai, but unexpectedly he caused a big disaster. The earth is no longer full of frogs, the sun is as red as fire, and the earth is dry and cracked due to drought. Later, Buluotuo and Mulojia said that Maguai was not a mortal being. She was the goddess of Lei Po in the sky. When she asked the genius to bring down the rain, she must be excused and invited Maguai back to the village to celebrate the New Year. This is the Maguai Festival. The origin of. Another story says that Maguai was the son of King Thunder and was sent to the world as an angel. He gave rain to the world when he was called King of Thunder, so people were very grateful to him. These legends are all related to the fact that Maguai is the totem of the Zhuang people.
