Why did Tang Monk name Zhu Ganghyena Zhu Bajie?

It is said that Sun Wukong collected the pig-gang hyena and brought it to Tang Monk. Tang Monk said, since you decided to mix with me, I have to give you a Dharma name. Bajie said that I have a Dharma named Zhu Wuneng, which was given by Guanyin Bodhisattva. Tang Monk said, "Okay, okay, the monkey is called Wukong and you are called Wuneng. That's very good. They belong to my sect." Zhu Wu Neng continues to violate the precepts and act cute. Master, I have taken the Bodhisattva precepts and given up the five kinds of meat and three kinds of disgust. Today I will break my fast. Tang Seng said no. If you don't eat meat and don't like it, I will give you another name and call you Bajie. Someone may ask, Zhu Ganghe was a vegetarian before he met Tang Seng, why did he eat meat after meeting Tang Seng? Doesn't he understand that monks cannot eat meat? In fact, Bajie understood better than anyone else, he was just pretending to be dumbfounded in front of Tang Monk. Just to test Tang Seng's bottom line and see if Tang Seng and Guanyin are on the same path.

What are the five kinds of meat and three kinds of disgust? Li Shizhen's "Compendium of Materia Medica": The five meats are the five pungents, which are said to be pungent and smelly, causing dizziness and injuring the spirit. Taoists regard leeks, scallions, garlic, brassicas, and coriander as the five meats. The five kinds of spicy food are leeks, leeks (similar to onions, usually eaten pickled), garlic, brassicas (rapeseed), and coriander (coriander, also known as coriander). The main reason why people who practice Taoism do not eat these five things is not because they are spicy and irritating and make them dizzy. The key is sexual intercourse. These five things nourish yin and yang. Eating them stimulates sexual desire. People who practice Taoism have a pure mind and few desires. , especially not to stimulate sexual desire, otherwise all previous efforts will be easily ruined. Later, the scallops were replaced by green onions, and today’s monks do not eat green onions. The three annoyances refer to dog meat, wild geese and mullet. Why is it called the three disgusts? It is said that the sky is disgusted with geese, the earth is disgusted with dogs, and the water is disgusted with mullets. The geese represent the relationship between husband and wife, the dog represents the bond of protecting the owner, and the mullet represents the loyalty and respect of the king and his subjects, so they cannot bear to eat it. In fact, it’s all nonsense. These three things are great supplements. If you have a nosebleed after eating it, Ximen Qing will eat dog meat and turtle every day, so ascetics especially cannot eat these three things.

But did Bajie eat five kinds of meat and three things before being ordained by Guanyin? No doubt about food. Not just eating but gorging on it. Why? It's because Bajie practices the method of becoming an immortal through indulgence. It is said that there are two kinds of immortality, one is abstinence, which is what most people play. Sha Monk is the one who abstains from sexual desire and becomes an immortal. It is said that in order to become an immortal, he even threw himself into the palace with a knife. This article will talk about Sha Monk later. One is to indulge in sexual desires, which is called taking yin and replenishing yang. Huangdi and Pengzu became immortals by indulging in lust. Bajie claims to have mastered the Nine-turn Great Returning Pill, and he can do it day and night. It goes up to Niwan Palace at the top gate and down to Yongquan Point on the footboard. The peripheral kidney water flows into Hua Chi, and the Dantian is replenished with warmth. Infants and girls are matched with yin and yang, lead and mercury are in harmony with each other and divide the sun and the moon. Li Long, Kan and Tiger were used to reconcile, and the turtle sucked up all the blood of the Golden Crow. What the Spirit Turtle is and what the Golden Crow is, you have to understand it yourself. Therefore, Bajie must be greatly supplemented, including five meat and three disgusting foods.

As soon as Tang Monk heard that the Eight Precepts were going to ban five meat and three disgusting foods, he immediately stopped it. Five plus three equals eight. Since you have banned the five meat and three disgusting foods, I will give you the Dharma name of the Eight Precepts. In fact, the Eight Precepts are Buddhist precepts. What is Bajie? He has no intention to kill, has compassion on all living beings, and must not harm or squirm. No greed, thinking about giving, but greedy. Have no lustful intentions, do not think about sexual intercourse, practice the holy life, and do not have evil desires. Do not lie, think sincerely, speak without deceit, and speak with your heart. Don't drink, don't get drunk, and go into your free time. No need for peace, no beauty, no makeup, no singing and dancing. If you don't seek peace, you won't lie down on a good bed, but on a humble bed and a straw mat, you will give up your sleep and meditate on the scriptures. Follow the Dharma and don’t eat when the time passes. It's not the same thing as the five kinds of meat and three kinds of disgust.

So why did Tang Seng change Bajie’s name? Because Wuneng is a Taoist name, the five meat dishes and the three disgusting foods are the Taoist precepts, and Tang Monk is a disciple of Tathagata, so he needs to abide by the Buddhist precepts. Some people want to ask whether Guanyin Bodhisattva is Taoist or Buddhist. In fact, Guanyin Bodhisattva, like Patriarch Bodhi, straddles the two realms of Buddhism and Taoism. In the Buddhist realm, he is Guanyin Bodhisattva, and in the Taoist realm, he is Cihang Taoist. Wukong, Wu, Neng, and Jing are all Taoist names, so Tang Monk didn't agree with them, so he gave everyone new names, such as Xingzhe, Bajie, and Monk. The marks of Buddhism are very obvious. This is the first thing Tang Seng needs to express his loyalty to Tathagata. It shows that Tang Seng is not stupid and has deep tricks.

It’s just a story.
