Introduction to Huangyao Ancient Town

Huangyao Ancient Town is located in the northeast of Zhaoping County, Hezhou, Guangxi, 40 kilometers away from Hezhou City and 200 kilometers away from Guilin.

Huangyao Ancient Town has a radius of 3.6 kilometers and is a karst landform. It originated during the Song Dynasty and has a history of nearly 1,000 years. The natural landscape has eight major sceneries and 24 minor sceneries; there are more than 20 temples, temples, and more than 10 pavilions and pavilions preserved, most of which were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Famous scenic spots include the former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee, the ancient stage, Anle Temple, etc.

Ancient stage

The ancient stage is located on the bank of Yao River, east of Baozhu Temple. The Huangyao ancient stage was built in 1524, the third year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. It has a single-eaves, mountain-top, wood, stone, and brick structure. The entire stage is in the shape of a "convex" shape. It is an eight-column pavilion-style stage with a backstage, a balcony, and side rails.

Guangxi Provincial Working Committee Former site

The former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee is located in Baozhu Temple, an ancient town. In the winter of 1944, Japan invaded Guangxi and Guilin fell (Guilin was the seat of the Provincial Working Committee at that time). The Guangxi Provincial Working Committee, under the leadership of Qian Xing, moved to Huangyao and carried out work in Baozhu Temple as a covert location.

At that time, a large number of celebrities including He Xiangning, Ouyang Yuqian, Qian Jiaju, Zhang Xichang and others were evacuated to Huangyao with the Provincial Working Committee. To commemorate this period of history, the Guangxi Provincial People's Government designated Baozhu Temple as the former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee, and in 1990 it was listed as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit and a provincial patriotic education base.

Liyu Street

Liyu Street is located on Liyu Street in the east of the ancient town. In ancient times, when craftsmen were paving a stone street, they encountered a protruding natural rock, so they slightly modified the stone and chiseled it into a carp about 2 feet long, which was called "Pandao Stone Fish". . This street is also called "Carp Street".

Xianren Ancient Well

Xianren Ancient Well is about two or three kilometers away from its source, Jigong Mountain. It covers an area of ??about 50 square meters, is more than 1 meter deep, and is divided into five openings. People in the ancient town call the water in this well fairy water. The first well is exclusively for residents to drink, the second well is for washing vegetables, and the third, fourth, and fifth wells are for washing clothes and agricultural tools. Every year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month is the "Water Fetching Festival". Before twelve o'clock at noon on that day, people in the town come here to offer incense and fetch water.

Anle Temple

Anle Temple is located on Anle Street in Huangyao. In the 26th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1573), the native people often came out to plunder money because they excluded the Han people who came here to make a living. So they submitted a Toba Xi (urgent message) and asked the governor and the prefect of Futai to send officials to manage it. The prefect at that time Li Daoqing of Qianhu was sent to lead officers and soldiers to quell the rebellion among the local people.

In order to express their gratitude to the officers and soldiers who had contributed a lot to suppressing the rebellion, the people of Huang Yao raised funds to build this temple, named it "Anle Temple", and erected a statue of the temple god (Li Daoqing) to commemorate it forever. It was the early years of the Qing Dynasty (1644), and it has a history of more than 360 years.

Statue of Martyr Qian Xing

The statue of Martyr Qian Xing stands in the small square in front of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee Memorial Hall in Baozhu Temple, Huangyao Town. The statue is 3 meters high and made of fiberglass.

The base of the statue is 2.6 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. The sides of the platform are 1.1 meters long. The three steps under the platform have a total height of 0.5 meters and are made of granite. This statue was built in 1986 to commemorate Qian Xing, the first secretary of the Working Committee of Guangxi Province.

Watch Tower

The Watch Tower is under the Longpan Fairy Mountain Temple. This tower is a key tower in Huangyao Ancient Town. Its function is to guard the pass and look out. On every first and fifteenth day of the Lunar New Year, people come here to offer incense and pray for peace.

Sima Di

Sima Di is located at No. 52-53 Longpan Street. The "Sima" here is not a surname, but an official position. "Sima" has several explanations: first, it is another name for Shangshu of the Ministry of War; second, it is another name for Fuzhou Tongben; third, it is a common name for Tongzhi. According to historical records, this family's surname was Mo, and the "Sima" official he served in the Ming Dynasty was the general magistrate of Fuzhou.
