When dreams are used as verbs, they are mostly intransitive verbs. If you want to follow a specific dream, you need to add the preposition of or about.

To dream of/about (doing) something means "dreaming of something or dreaming of doing something"

He dreams of becoming a famous violinist one day.

You can also talk to the talk clause

I never dreamed that I would see you again.

I never thought I would see you again.

There is only one case where you can be a transitive verb, directly following the object, but in this case it must be a cognate object.

I had a terrible dream last night.

(The former is a transitive verb; I had a terrible dream last night.
