Erwang Temple is a memorial temple for Li Bing and his son, the diggers of Dujiangyan Project, which is located on the hillside on the right bank of Minjiang River. The temple is surrounded by mountains and waters, and the environment is quiet. It was originally the memorial hall of Wang Di, the king of Shu, and was later changed to the memorial hall of Li Bing and his son. After the Song Dynasty, Li Bing and his son were made kings, so they were called "Two Kings Temple".
The Erwang Temple was built in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, and the existing buildings were rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. Li Bing and his descendants' motto about water control is embedded in the stone wall of Erwang Temple: deep scouring beach and low weir, which is called "Three-character Classic of Water Control".
There are also statues of Li Bing and his son Jiro in the temple. On the east side of the main hall, the teahouse is a diaojiao building hanging from the cliff, which can provide tea for tourists. On the right side of the back hall are inscriptions by painters such as Zhang Daqian and Xu Beihong. The Erwang Temple is full of incense. Every year from June 24th to 26th of the lunar calendar, there will be a temple fair here.
Temple decoration
There is a map of Dujiangyan irrigation area drawn in the late Qing Dynasty on the wall in front of the temple, which is an extremely precious historical material. Your Excellency Guan Lan in the temple, a row of Dan walls and stone walls are engraved with two Three-Character Classics for water control.
One is the Three-Character Classic compiled by Hu Qi, a magistrate of guanxian, in the 13th year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1874) according to the water control experience of Dujiangyan in previous dynasties. The text says: "Six-character biography is a lesson for a thousand years. Dig a river and build a dike. Divided into four or six, the drought is flat. See you at the water painting iron pile. The cage is tightly woven, but the stone is healthy. Corner mouth, sheepfold. Line up and leave a leaky can. Follow the old system and be retro. "
The other time was in the thirty-second year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1906), and the capital of Chengdu directly revised the original Three Amethyst and carved it on the stone wall of Erwang Temple.
The content is: "Dig deep into the beach and make a fool of yourself. The purpose of six words is a lesson for a thousand years. Dig river sand and pile banks. Build a fish mouth and a sheepfold. Line up and leave a leaky can. The cage is dense, Shi Jian. Divided into four or six, the drought is flat. See you at the water painting iron pile. Exercise hard at the age of 20 to prevent diseases. Follow the old system and don't change it. "
The eight-character classic of water control summarized by later generations: "Follow the times according to the situation" and "Jerry-building a bay, painting the heart at that time" are considered to be the true meaning of water control full of philosophy and have been widely praised so far.
