Paper binding

Paper binding is a unique folk art that integrates paper cutting, painting, straw weaving, bamboo binding and pasting. It is indeed time for the paper-bound art to enter Wulian. According to an old man in Hongning Village, during the light years of the Qing Dynasty, his ancestral home was engaged in paper binding, and he was the fifth generation. There are dozens of papermakers in Wulian County, mainly distributed in Hongning, the county seat, Dujiagou, Chaohe, Xumeng, Yuli and Wanghu. Before liberation, cows, horses, sedan chairs, chests, cornucopia, cash cows, lotus tables and figures in Dozza were used to pay homage to those who were buried with them. Sometimes kites are tied, including Tiangong, Bagua, Phoenix, bangs, butterflies, swallows and moths. Also tied lanterns and dragon lanterns. Usually, people who hold happy events and build new houses are decorated, such as tying the ceiling and beautifying the bridal chamber.

With the development of the times, the ancient art of "paper binding" absorbs the strengths of sister art and shines new splendor. Since 1981, Wulian County Cultural Center and Library have jointly held the Spring Festival lantern riddles, and the paper lanterns selected and sent by each village have different images, which are really beautiful. In 1986, Hongning Village created "Shuanglong Play Pearl" paper-bound artwork. Two dragons are coiled around two pillars, with a treasure in the middle and colorful clouds around them. The artwork is only one meter high, unique in shape and profound in meaning. In the Spring Festival of 1987, Wulian County Supply and Marketing Cooperative made a dragon-shaped float. Two dragons are stuck on both sides of the car, and the car is moving, shaking its head and wagging its tail, just like a real dragon walking around, and the audience is surrounded by the car, cheering and praising.
