Guiyuan Temple 500 Arhat Lots: Find the lot for the 295th Arhat

The end of the Zen staff hides the mystic power, which represents the present wealth and past life achievements. Be generous to others, discipline yourself, and have good character. In the future, you will sit peacefully in the lotus.

The general idea is: the Zen staff here is definitely not the Zen staff planted in the hands of ordinary Zen masters, but refers to the Zen staff held in the hands of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. The Zen staff he holds in his hand is also called a "tin staff" and has nine links on the top. When Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva shakes his tin staff, it will open the door to heaven or hell. Therefore, this Zen rod is quoted here to illustrate the authenticity of cause and effect, and also to illustrate that all karma and results are self-caused and self-resultant. The following "If you are tolerant of others and discipline yourself, you will be of good character, and you will be able to sit peacefully in the lotus in the future" is easier to understand. That is: if you want to become a Buddha, you must start by being tolerant of others and discipline yourself. Because the road to becoming a Buddha is the process of always examining one's own mind.
