What causes astigmatism?

Astigmatism is mainly caused by congenital development and acquired diseases. Astigmatism caused by congenital development is mainly caused by the development of cornea. Due to the inconsistency of corneal curvature, parallel light rays can not form a focus after refraction through the cornea, which leads to blurred vision of patients.

Astigmatism caused by acquired diseases can be seen in eye space-occupying lesions, which are formed by corneal compression and corneal curvature change. If lens dislocation occurs, it will also lead to astigmatism. Keratoconus, the constant expansion of cornea and the constant change of corneal curvature will also lead to the change of astigmatism.

In addition, eye trauma and eye surgery may also cause acquired astigmatism, which can be divided into regular astigmatism and irregular astigmatism.
