Introduction to the historical sites of Erwang Temple

Erwang Temple

It was originally the Wangdi Temple. During the reign of Emperor Qi Ming, Liu Jilian, the assassin of Yizhou, moved the Wangdi Temple to Pixian County. In the first year of Emperor Jianwu of Qi Ming Dynasty (494), in order to commemorate the great merits of Li Bing, the excavator of Dujiangyan in China and the prefect of Qin Shu County, and his son Erlang in building Dujiangyan, the original Wangdi Temple was rebuilt and renamed Chongde Temple. After the Song Dynasty, Li Bing and his son were named kings one after another, so it was renamed Erwang Temple. It is adjacent to the Minjiang River, backed by Cuiling Mountains, facing Qingcheng in the south, and connected to Minshan Mountain in the west. The scenery from far and near is very beautiful, so it has the reputation of "Jade Wall Fairy City".

On the front wall of the temple door is the "Dujiangyan Irrigation Area Map" drawn in the late Qing Dynasty, which is extremely precious historical information. Under the Guanlan Pavilion in the temple, two "Three Character Classic" on water control are engraved on a row of red stone walls. One is the "Three Character Classic" compiled by Hu Qi, the magistrate of Guanxian County in the 13th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1874), based on the experience of Dujiangyan water control in the past dynasties. The text says: "Six-character biography, a lesson for thousands of years. Dig the center of the river and build embankments. Divide into four or six. It is flat and dry. It has water-painted symbols and iron piles. The cages are made of stone, and the sheep pens are installed. The leaky pots are still in place. "The other one is from the 19th century of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. In the second year (1906), Wenhuan, the governor of Chengdu, revised the original "Three Character Classic" and re-engraved it on the stone wall of Erwang Temple. The content is: "Dig deep into the beach and build a low ground. The six-character edict is a lesson for thousands of years. Dig river sand and pile embankments. Build fish mouths and install sheepfolds. Set up pavilions and leave leaky pots. The cages are woven densely and the stones are strong." Divided into four and six, there is a drought. The water is drawn and the iron pile is seen. Follow the old system and do not change. "Cut the corner of the bay, and draw the heart when the time is right" is considered to be the true meaning of water control full of philosophy, and it is widely praised today.
