Carpenter stool practice

First, the air-dried stump is sawed into square blocks with a chainsaw, and then the periphery and upper and lower ends of the block are planed flat with a carpenter. Then use a pencil to design the shape of the modeling stump stool on the wood block, and mark the parts that need to be removed. Then use a chainsaw to cut off the excess part, and then use a grinder to make it into a stool shape. Finally, epoxy resin is used to fill the cracks and gaps, and then the surface is polished and waxed.

Step 1: cut the square wooden pier

Find a dried stump. If the stump is not air-dried, it can be placed outdoors to air-dry. Put the air-dried stump on the woodworking workbench, cut the upper and lower ends of the stump, put a 330mm×330mm square paper card on the stump (as shown below), and then draw the size of the stool with a pencil. Finally, the four sides were sawed off with a chainsaw to make a rectangular stump 330mm×330mm square and 455mm high.

Step 2: Make a shape.

This step is to make the stool into a twisted shape. First, put the sawed square stump on the workbench, and level the surrounding with an electric planer (or manual wood planer). Then use 50mm thick square wood to level the upper and lower ends respectively, and draw the thickness of both ends of the stool surface and stool foot. Then draw a semicircle on the corner of the stump with a paint bucket (as shown in the picture). After the semicircle of eight corners is drawn, the diagonal corners are connected into a straight line. After drawing four diagonal lines in this way, a twisted design line is formed, and finally the position to be sawed is marked with a pencil.

Put the painted stump on the workbench obliquely, and saw off the excess part with a chainsaw. Pay attention to the wire cutting strictly, and don't cut too much. The parts that are difficult to saw can be polished with a grinder later, and don't cut too hard to destroy the shape. If you use a hand saw, the stump should be fixed in a vise first, and then cut with a wire saw.

Step 3: Polishing and molding.

Use hand-held electric grinder to further polish the shape of wooden pier and stool. Before starting the machine, check the grinding wheel for cracks and whether the protective cover and components are in good condition. Wear protective glasses to prevent small particles rotating at high speed from flying into eyes during processing. Then polish the shape according to the design line draft. Don't polish off the four corners of the modeling line drawing, and the polished modeling should be smooth. The technical difficulty of polishing is not high, and the key is care and patience.

Step 4: resin filling

There are many cracks and gaps in the air-dried stump itself, which can be made up by epoxy resin here. Cracks and gaps filled with epoxy resin are as indestructible as glass. Pigments can also be added to the resin. The repair method is to polish the surface of cracks and gaps. Mix and stir the component A and the component B evenly according to the ratio of 1: 1, and then fill the cracks and gaps.
