How to distinguish corn borer from corn armyworm

Corn borer and corn armyworm are two major pests of corn. They often harm corn in the field at the same time, with similar characteristics and often confused. The difference method is briefly introduced as follows:

Corn borer: it belongs to Lepidoptera, borer family, commonly known as borer;

Corn armyworm: It belongs to Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, also known as marching insect and five-color insect.

Asian corn borer larva: The mature larva is 20-30mm long, cylindrical, with dark brown head, light brown, dark brown and grayish yellow color on the back, four trichomes on the middle and back chest and back, two rows of trichomes on the back of abdominal segment 1-8, two in the front and two in the back, and three-order missing rings on toe hooks. Corn armyworm larvae: There are eight-shaped black stripes on the top of the head, brown to reddish brown on the head, brown to grayish brown or reddish on the 2nd-3rd instar larvae, and black or grayish black on the 4th instar larvae. There are five back lines on the body, so it is also called five-color bug. There are dark brown lines on the outside of the abdomen and obvious white lines on the valve. Pupa is reddish brown.
