The stone stele of "Songgao Ling Temple Stele" has been severely weathered, and almost half of the writing on the stele has peeled off. The original stele is now stored in the Zhongyue Temple in Songshan Mountain, Dengfeng, Henan Province. On the forehead of the stele, there are eight characters "The stele of Zhongyue Songgaoling Temple" in seal script. There are 7 columns and 23 rows of 50 characters in the upper part of the stele. There are 7 columns in the lower part of the stele. The characters in the upper two columns are larger. There are 22 lines and 16 lines in the next five columns. The characters are smaller and the number of characters varies in each line. There is an Ming rubbing on this stele on white linen paper. Lines 11 to 18 contain 5 more characters, called 1, than the original rubbing in the early Qing Dynasty. All rubbings are in 19 pages, with 8 lines in each half and 7 characters in each line. Each page is 27.5 cm long and 15.5 cm wide. The cover is inscribed by Guo Moruo, followed by inscriptions and postscripts by Pan Chengbi, Shao Rui, etc., and has the seals of "Yu Jixiang Seal", "Song Fu" and other seals.
This rubbing was once collected by Chen Shutong; in 1968, Chen Shutong’s family donated it to the country, and it is now in the Palace Museum. It is the earliest rubbing in existence.
