Renhuai is located in the northwest of Guizhou Province, in the middle reaches of Chishui River, on the north side of the western section of Dalou Mountain Range, and backed by the historic city Zunyi. It is a typical mountainous area where the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau transits to the Sichuan Basin, is the connection point between the northern Guizhou Economic Zone and the southern Sichuan Economic Zone, is the place where the Red Army's Long March "Sidu Chishui" fought, and is the hometown of Moutai, a well-known national wine at home and abroad. In July 2004, it was officially recognized as "China Wine Capital". The whole city covers an area of 1788 square kilometers, governs 12 towns, 6 townships, 1 sub-district offices, 149 village committees and 22 community neighborhood committees, and is inhabited by 9 ethnic groups including Han, Miao, Buyi, Gelao, Yi and Bai. Cultivated land is 277 13.3 hectares, including 992 1 hectare of cultivated land and 7792.2 hectares of soil. Mountainous inland cities are sparsely populated.
