Preface:
I read this book because my older brother who lived across the street was a fortune teller and strongly recommended me to read this book. The explanation of Bingjian is that ice means clarity, and appraiser means mirror. "Bingjian" is a metaphor for discerning everything and having an insight into the inside story. The Complete Book of Bingjian is divided into seven chapters, namely, the Divine Bones Chapter, the Hardness and Softness Chapter, the Appearance Chapter, the Modality Chapter, the Men's Eyebrows Chapter, the Voice Chapter, and the Complexion Chapter. The theme throughout the entire article is the method of looking at people. Zeng Gong’s physiognomy is based on the observation of people’s words, deeds, expressions, emotions, etc., and summarizes a person’s temperament, eyes, expressions, behavior, speech, voice, actions, and personality in daily life. Character characteristics, personality qualities, inner activities, mental outlook, and life experience are then summarized into people's future and destiny, and the way to know and employ people is explained. The Bing Jian summarizes the secrets of fortune-telling: "Look at the eyes and nose to see what is right; look at the lips to see what is true; look at the spirit for fame and fortune; look at the fingers and claws for ideas; look at the hamstrings for trouble; if you want to see the order, it's all in the language." .

1. Divine Bones (Eyes and Bones)
When a person comes into contact with external things, his expression is concentrated in his eyes. If the heart is upright, the attention will be focused, and the eyes will be bright; if the heart is not upright, the attention will be distracted, the eyes will be dim; human eyes cannot lie, and the look in the eyes is the external manifestation of a person's inner activities. People with distracted vision are often tired and often daydream. People with flickering eyes often lack thoughtfulness.
The book points out that when we need help from others, we should pay attention to the eyes of others, so as to avoid unnecessary trouble. Diffuse eyes indicate that the other person does not know what to do; calm eyes indicate that he is confident. Glazed eyes indicate extreme fear about the current problem.
Zeng Guofan said: "Those who have a deep appreciation of reading will have naturally pure and moist faces." This means that people who have a deep appreciation of reading will have naturally pure and moist faces. A person who has a profound reading experience must be a person with high concentration. His heart is simple and pure, and all the trivial matters in the world are forgotten by him. Because of the high degree of concentration, the reader's spirit and body are continuously accumulated, and the spirit is not slackened at all, and is enriched day by day. Over a long period of time, he developed an aura of awe-inspiringness in his heart, which in turn acted on his body, making his life rational and orderly. Therefore, people who have profound reading experience must be healthy people.
Another part of this article talks about looking at facial bones. On the head, the main thing to look at is whether the heavenly bone (in the center of the forehead) is plump and raised; whether the occipital bone (in the center of the back of the head) is substantial; and whether the solar bone (between the eyebrows) is thin and prominent. On the face, we mainly look at the brow bone (above the eyebrows) and cheekbones (below the eyes); if the brow bone is depressed, it is often a treacherous person.
2. Rigidity and Softness
Rigidity and softness are a set of contradictory concepts widely used in ancient China. Rigidity refers to hardness and strength, which is the opposite of softness. Zeng Guofan positioned the Five Elements as "hard and soft on the outside", mainly to demonstrate human character and destiny from the material level attributes, and to talk about the future created by innate qualifications. But its real purpose is to discuss "inner hardness and softness", go deep into the level of people's spiritual consciousness, and judge a person's character through the character traits displayed in psychological activities. In essence, it is similar to "character determines destiny". wonderful. Inner hardness and softness are judged by the dynamic changes in the hardness and softness of a person's character. Internal hardness and softness are actually a long-term accumulation under the influence of the external environment, achieving instantaneous feedback.
3. Appearance
It is true that beauty and ugliness cannot be used as a criterion for identifying talents, but in real life, whether in the workplace or officialdom, when abilities are similar, appearance Good people are more likely to be selected for promotion. When looking at a person's appearance, the limit for looking at a person's appearance is a seven-foot body, while judging a person's appearance is based on two eyes. If every part of a person is in harmony as a whole, then it can be said that the person has good looks and good fortune. If they are crowded with each other and deviate from each other, their appearance will appear messy and fragmented, and their fate will be a bit bad.
The book points out that the common characteristics of nobles are: white body and dark face, thin body and thick face, short stature but loud voice, short face and long eyes, and a fragrant body odor. The most valuable thing about human appearance is the symmetry of all parts of the body. In terms of stature, a person can be short, but not like a squatting pig. You can be tall, but you can't be as tall as a slender weed. Looking at various parts of the body, the back should be round and thick, the abdomen should be protruding and flat, the hands should be warm and soft, and the palms should be curved like a bow. The insteps should be thick and full, and the soles of the feet should be empty.
People with rich social experience usually use the following four methods to identify talents. First, look at whether a person's appearance and demeanor are dignified. Second, look at a person's thickness and mental state. Third, see whether a person is pure or not. Fourth, check whether a person's head is round and whether his forehead is high.
4. Modality
The "modality" mentioned by Zeng Guofan is a very broad concept, covering all aspects of a person's external words and deeds and inner thoughts. When knowing and employing people, you can know their innermost feelings by carefully observing their mood. The external manifestations of modality are divided into two types: "constant state" and "tense".
There are four common constant states: the first, the euphemistic and weak state, that is, the birdy, delicate and kind person; the wild and uninhibited state, that is, the disheveled and unkempt person ; The lazy state of being lazy, that is, a person who does whatever he wants; the tactful state of communication, that is, a person who hides his thoughts and observes everything. These moods all come from the true feelings in people's hearts and are not arbitrary pretense. They are tactful and weak but not flattering, wild and unrestrained but not loud and noisy, lazy and lazy but frank and innocent, smooth and courageous in dealing with things, etc. Anyone can become a useful person; otherwise, they will become useless waste. As long as you can distinguish the general mood, you can predict a person's future by 20% to 30%. Tense, the modality in a momentary state, is classified based on the movement of changes before and after. It is related to the environment. It is a microscopic examination of the inner world of the character and complements the macroscopic examination of the constant state. People's character and character are all different, so it's difficult to have a uniform way of examining them. Regardless of whether people are modern or ancient, their natures are the same. Although their appearances may differ from time to time, their essence remains unchanged. Therefore, there is no difference between the weak state, the mad state, the lazy state and the circumstantial state in today's people.
5. Men and eyebrows
As the saying goes: "A young man has two eyebrows, and an old man has a beard." What these two sentences say is what a person's destiny is like when he is young. It depends on the appearance of the eyebrows. As for your luck in your later years, it mainly depends on your beard.
First of all, let’s talk about eyebrows. The ancients believed that people with “inverted horoscope” eyebrows have a strong character, have ideals, ambitions, and the courage to enterprising. And if the eyebrows show the character "eight", then this kind of person has a cowardly character. Next, let’s talk about “beard”. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that “beard” belongs to the kidneys. People with thick beards usually have strong kidneys. Good kidneys are an important reason and an indispensable condition for a person's good health and energy. Therefore, if the beard is full in later years, the person is usually not bad.
Some people have more beards, and some people have less beards. Regardless of whether they are more or less, they must be commensurate with their eyebrows.
6. Voice
People’s voices differ depending on their health status, living environment, innate endowment and acquired cultivation. Therefore, voice expresses a person's cultural character to a certain extent. Therefore, it is very possible to judge a person's inner world from his voice. First, a person who is dishonest in his heart speaks in a hesitant voice, which is a sign of guilty conscience; second, a person who is honest in his heart speaks in a clear and clear voice, which is a sign of calmness; third, a person who is mean and perverse in heart , have evil intentions, so their voices are strange and very harsh; fourth, people who are generous and gentle in their hearts speak in a gentle and gentle voice, like water flowing constantly, unhurriedly and unhurriedly.
When people speak, they are communicating their thoughts and at the same time expressing their psychology and emotions. People with slurred speech and slow speech are generally withdrawn and lack training in verbal expression. They like places with few people and often spend time alone. People who speak slowly tend to have a calm personality.
7. Complexion
A person's psychological activities and behavioral thoughts can be expressed through complexion. The ancients divided "complexion" into main color and guest color. The main color is the innate color. The ancients correlated the five colors with the five images. Among them, gold is white, wood is cyan, water is black, earth is yellow, and fire is red. These five colors are the basic colors, and some changes may occur in practice, but as long as they match the five shapes, they are the correct colors and auspicious colors. Appearance is acquired color, which changes with time. It has different expressions in the four seasons, morning and evening.
Conclusion: A person who eats in moderation will naturally not mix with a drunkard; a person who behaves elegantly will not associate with a rude and savage person.
