It mainly inhabits the secondary broad-leaved forest, bamboo forest and forest edge sparse forest in the low hills at the foot of the mountain and plains below 2000m above sea level. It feeds on insects and insect larvae such as locusts, grasshoppers, scarabs, snakes, caterpillars, cutworms, flies and lice, and also eats plant foods such as grains, plant fruits and seeds.
Myna is a common species in southern China. It is not only an important agricultural and forestry bird, but also a popular caged bird. It can imitate the songs of other birds and simple human language. It is widely kept in captivity in China and introduced to the Philippines and Canada.
