The customs and customs of Datong

Datong Folk Customs:

One of the Datong customs--marriage customs. In ancient marriage, young men and women were ordered by their parents to be united by a matchmaker, and their marriage etiquette was also quite complicated. of.

As stated in "Datong County Chronicles": "The matchmaker talked to the parents of both families and made a promise, and then sent Geng Tie for marriage, fortune telling, and betrothal. The name was: Change Tie, which means asking for names in ancient times. Betrothal gift; on the day of marriage, the gift of money is given, which is called "offering tea"; it is attached with a letter of invitation, called "Tongshu", which is the gift of "Gunaji" and "Nazheng".

Also, one day before the wedding, the husband's family prepares meat and takes it to the girl's family. The meat is called "Li Niang Meat" and the noodles are called "Li Niang Meat", and the name is "Ji Zhuang". When the time comes, the son-in-law's family prepares a pair of grooms, and selects two of the most courteous among the daughter's family members to welcome the daughter, which is called marriage.

The daughter's family also selects two of the most courteous women's family members to be her husband. The name of the door is: sending off relatives. When a gentleman's family greets a bride or family, many common people do not greet them in person. They only use their daughter-in-law to take photos of them, while the son-in-law waits outside the door. After entering the middle hall, an incense table is set up outside to salute, the son-in-law bows, and the son-in-law waits outside the door. If they don’t worship, it’s called worshiping heaven and earth, and they perform the Ningli ceremony as in the ancient system. The next day, the newlyweds worship their ancestors, parents, and elder relatives together. The food is sent to the son-in-law's house, which is a gift to the uncle and aunt in ancient times. The son-in-law meets the wife's parents, sometimes in three days, and sometimes it is auspicious to go after three to five days. For example, if a woman lives for a month, she will return, which is called: living in the opposite month.

This is a common etiquette. After liberation, with the changes of the times, the marriage in Datong area changed. The etiquette is much simpler than before, but in order to bring good luck to the wedding, the groom usually wears red flowers when welcoming the bride.

The bridegroom’s brother-in-law or close friend will serve as the best man. The groom should bring a red cloth trouser belt to the bride, which is called: "Happy Marriage"; he will also bring a bottle with an onion in it. , the name is: "rooting and establishing the queen"; a piece of pork with five ribs is also called "Li Niang meat", the name is: "five directions auspicious celebration".

When the bride gets on the car, the bride’s family will send a plate of dumplings to the groom’s family, with big red paper-cut words covering the dumplings, called: “Family Happy”; at the same time, the bride’s family will send a plate of dumplings to the groom’s family. "Li Niang Meat" cuts out a few ribs and gives them to the groom to take back, which means that the husband and wife will be harmonious after marriage, which is called "the muscles and bones are inseparable".

When the groom and the bride held their wedding, the five-star red flag was hung in the courtyard.

The wedding ceremony procedure is: (the master of ceremonies sings the ceremony)

Datong Customs 2 - Funeral Customs The funeral customs of ancient Datong have the same etiquette Cumbersome.

Generally it can be divided into small gathering, big gathering, burning paper, sending lamps, saying goodbye, funeral, complex and other procedures.

As stated in "Datong County Chronicles": "When the relatives first died, they cried countless times. After the small ones, they were obituary to relatives and friends. The great achievements and above were all made with hemp. The name is: Santou; the family is divided. The head is wrapped in cloth, and mourning is carried out in three days. Each of the following will wear their own clothes, and then the funeral will be held in the middle hall, and a memorial ceremony will be held day and night. On this day, relatives and colleagues will pay tribute to each other. Paper condolences, the name is: burning paper; it is night, weeping in the Chenghuang Temple, the name is: sending lanterns; on the seventh day, relatives and friends pay homage, the name is: Shenghan, also called: opening a condolence; You Bi Yan Li Sheng, experts and common people pay homage The poor are often buried in seven or nine days, and the rich are buried after many years, which is not polite.

However, those who know the etiquette of the gentry and the common people will be buried within a hundred days.

A few days before the funeral, relatives and friends will pay homage to the deceased.

Relatives and friends will pay homage in the first three days, which is called "Ci Ling". The same is true for burials, including setting up spiritual seats, setting up soul silks, erecting inscriptions, painting portraits, making bright vessels, serving as gods, moving coffins, setting up memorial offerings, and worshiping local gods.

< p> However, the common people admired Buddhism, and after being buried for three days, the owner worshiped him in the tomb, which was named Fu San, and returned to the round tomb.

There were also gentlemen who cried in the tomb for three or five days.

"After liberation, with the changes of the times, funeral customs were greatly simplified. Especially after the crematorium was built in Datong City in 1966, burials were gradually eliminated, and ordinary people only used the method of holding memorial services. In this way, relatives and friends go to pay their respects, and then the deceased is sent to the crematorium for cremation.

This civilized and simple funeral form has gradually become generally accepted by the people.

The procedure of the memorial service is: (the master of ceremonies sings the ceremony)

1. The memorial service begins, everyone stands in silence;

2. Lay a wreath and deliver a eulogy;

3. Play mourning music; 4. Silence (three minutes of silence);

5. Deliver a eulogy; 6. Bow three times to the deceased;

7 , burning wreaths, burning eulogies;

8. The ceremony is completed.

The funeral elegies are accompanied by the crane returning to the west, the voice and appearance are still there, the longevity is restored, the virtue is everlasting, the hard work is lifelong, the reputation will last forever, the mourning is heavy, the ambition is not fulfilled, the beauty is faded, the life is self-denying, the life is hard work, and the death is over. Remembering the revolutionary life, being honest and noble for the people, spreading the spirit of the hometown, returning to China, showing off the festival, the posterity is filled with blood and tears flying in the sky, the sad news is heard, the tragic song is moving, I want to see the voice, the face is empty, but the tears will continue, the iron oath shakes the sky, the desire to hear the teachings, the apricot is silent, and the hope of virtue is still there. A night of autumn wind violently destroyed the bamboo body of the ancestors, and the voice and appearance are still there. The cold dew sheds tears on Sun Lan in the middle of the night. In the past, the kindness was as deep as the sea, and the kindness has not been repaid. I am ashamed to accept it as my son. Now I am heartbroken and weeping, and it is difficult to get rid of my shame. As a human being, half a son has a deep love for the building. Liang Dahao travels to the immortal traces, the fragrance of the clouds frightens Mount Tai, and Fan Kan praises him. He went to the nine springs in the sky to pay homage to the spirit vehicle. He was deeply saddened by his half-life.

The third custom of Datong - the custom of birth in Datong area. After a baby is born, his or her grandfather and grandmother must give the newborn baby gifts such as clothes, bedding, pillows, shoes and socks.

When the child is 12 days old, women among relatives and friends come to visit the mother of the child, called: inquire.

Bring some brown sugar, noodles, cakes and other gifts to the mother to express condolences.

The mother’s home must also have a simple meal to entertain guests.

During the delivery period, it is taboo for outsiders to enter the delivery room, especially for men from outside the home. In order to prevent someone from breaking in rashly, a red cloth strip is hung on the door to indicate that there is a mother in the home. No outsiders allowed.

Before the full moon, the baby's parents or other elders must give the baby a name. At the beginning, it must have a "baby name", also called a "nickname". Then give a name, also called an "official name", which is connected with the surname. In the future, you will use this name when registering for residence and going to school.

One month after the baby is born, the parents will celebrate a "full moon", a hundred days will celebrate a "hundred day", and a birthday will be celebrated on the first anniversary.

During the "full moon", "hundred days" and birthdays, parents' relatives and friends will bring gifts to express their celebration, and they will also hold banquets to entertain guests.

Nowadays, only children are the most common. The baby's "full moon", "hundred days" and birthday are very grand, and some even have a big banquet for guests. When the child reaches the age of 12, it is even more important. To celebrate, it is called "round lock".

Birth greetings: A thousand-mile horse, a stone lin sent from heaven, osmanthus fragrant, a unicorn auspicious, a daughter of gold, a pearl in the palm, jubilee celebrations, katydid celebrations, auspicious tiles, swallows The fourth custom of Datong is Yi Yimou, Guapu Yanxiang, and Xitian Hanyi. Names and customs Every child is born, and his parents have to give him a name.

There is also a custom in Datong area for naming children. Every parent or parents must name their children according to their own values, aesthetic views, interests and hobbies, expectations and admiration...etc., and the standard requirements are Yes: it sounds good to read, loud to shout, beautiful to write, and profound in aftertaste.

A name that can meet the requirements of these four standards is a good name.

Any good name must be something you like, your family will like, and it will win the favor of others.

So, how can we meet the above four standard requirements? With this problem in mind, the author visited some seniors, celebrities, experts, and scholars. Taken together, there are roughly the following five rules:

p>

1. Naming according to genealogy: In the Datong area, as far back as the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Confucianism had developed, and some famous families gradually emerged. In order to show off their family prestige, pass it on hereditary, and hope to be famous for generations, they wrote family trees. .

When writing a family tree, the names, official positions, official achievements, etc. of the ancestors are generally recorded according to the number of generations. Each generation can be continued.

This custom of continuing to write family trees became even more popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, not only among famous families, but also among ordinary well-off families, especially in rural areas.

Whenever a child is born, first check which generation his father belongs to? Then check what are the names of the children's peers? What should the child be called next to the names of his brothers and sisters? Then it is decided as a name. .

The most particular families in naming based on seniority belong to the four prominent Confucian families of Confucius, Mencius, Zeng, and Yan (i.e., Confucius, Meng He, Zeng Shen, and Yan Hui).

According to the records of "Historical Records": In December of the twelfth year of Emperor Gaozu's reign, Liu Bang "returned from Huainan, passed through Lu, and sacrificed Tailao (one pig, cow, and sheep) to Confucius." After that, the Northern Wei Dynasty Emperor Xiaowen Tuobahong, Tang Gaozong Li Zhi, Xuanzong Li Longji, Northern Zhou Taizu Guo Wei, Song Zhenzong Zhao Heng, Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty all went to Qufu to worship Confucius in order to show their respect for Confucianism. In particular, Emperor Qianlong did so eight times. He went to Confucius, and in the ninth year of Qianlong's reign, he gave thirty words to the Confucian government: Xiyan Gongyan inherited, Hongwen Zhenshangyan.

Xing Yu passed on to Guang, Zhaoxian was prosperous and prosperous.

Let Dewei bless you, and your Qin Shao Nian will be prominent.

In 1920, Kong Lingyi, the 76th generation descendant of Confucius, added another 20 words: Building roads leads to stability, and repairing oranges leads to longevity.

Yuwen Huanjingrui, Yongxi Shixuchang.

Since Emperor Qianlong gave the name, not only the Kong family members were named after it, but also the Meng family, Zeng family, and Yan family followed suit and were all named according to these fifty characters.

Since the Spring and Autumn Period, the descendants of these four families have multiplied in large numbers, all over the country and abroad, and there are also many in Datong. They meet in other places. As long as they mention their surnames, they will know which generation they belong to. Let’s stop talking. After the seniority and title are determined, there will be banquets and banquets, asking about the situation, and helping each other if there is financial difficulty.

2. Naming according to expectations: When every child is born, parents have expectations for their child’s character, temperament, behavior, career, etc. Some expect fame and wealth, some expect prosperity, and some They expect loyalty, filial piety, justice, and some expect benevolence, wisdom, etiquette, righteousness, and so on. When naming a girl, they use these words; for a girl, they expect her to be gentle, virtuous, and as beautiful as a flower. Therefore, when naming a girl, they usually use flowers, grass, Words such as orchid, zhen, ying, ling, branch, plum, e, phoenix, qin, qin, xia, chrysanthemum, peach, fairy...etc.

3. Name according to location: The parents’ ancestral place, the child’s birthplace, birth time, parents’ marriage place, and memorable times and places can all be used as names.

For example, the son of a certain leader of the People's Liberation Army was born during the battle in the Taihang Mountains. In order to commemorate the years of fighting in the Taihang Mountains and express his infinite affection for the people of the Taihang Mountains, he gave his child a very resounding name - Taihang; One child was born in 1960, when the country was in poverty and the family was poor. In order to keep him in mind, his parents named him Lu Ling; there was a child whose father was from Shaanxi and whose mother was from Shanxi. Named Qin Jin; another parent gave birth to his first girl named Lingling. When he gave birth to his second child, he really wanted to raise a boy. Unexpectedly, he gave birth to a girl. The parent hoped that Yu Wan would not have another girl in the future. So the girl was named "Zhi Ling". In order to cultivate this girl to be promising and emit a fragrance like flowers in the future, the forbidden word "Zhi" was added with the prefix "Cao", which happens to be the character "Zhi". According to the meaning of the word, it means "open". Small white flowers release the fragrant Angelica dahurica.

This thing may sound funny at first, but on the other hand, it also reflects an idea of ??naming.

4. Named after chance encounters: Before and after the child was born, what good dreams did the parents have, what things and objects they encountered when going out, and what were memorable, are all the materials for naming.

For example, the mother of a child dreamed of a snake when she was giving birth, so she named the child Menglong; the father of a child dreamed of a big leafy tree, so he named the child Menglong. tree; some parents dream of gold and name their children to be born of gold; no matter how bad the dreamed things and things are, in order to be auspicious and auspicious, they round it into a good omen and use the word "unfortunate dream" To comfort myself with the words "Change Ji Meng".

5. Name according to the scenery you admire: Everyone has his own aesthetic point of view and admires certain scenery. For example, animals include tiger, leopard, ox, dragon, horse, etc.; plants include pine, cypress, and forest. , flower, poplar.

Willow, etc.; landscapes include mountains, seas, rivers, peaks, rocks, water, etc.; mineral deposits include gold, silver, iron, tin, jade, etc.; colors include red, yellow, blue, and white. etc.; even natural phenomena such as light, brightness, brightness, sun, moon, etc.

Naming according to these scenery is also very effective. Especially in recent years, the only child is more likely to be born in many. The name does not need to consider the arrangement of his brothers and sisters. With the changes in society, the concept of family has gradually become indifferent. There is no need to consider the arrangement of the names of cousins, siblings, and the parents of the child can give their child a satisfactory name as they wish.

The fifth custom of Datong - Wangsu Datong area is rich in coal resources, which is bound to have various connections with the local people's clothing, food, housing and transportation.

Therefore, the role of coal has penetrated into customs and customs as far back as ancient times, among which making a strong fire is a local custom.

Every Spring Festival and New Year's Eve, large pieces of coal are used to build a tower-like structure in front of the courtyard of every household, which is called a prosperous fire. It is for good luck and wishes for prosperity throughout the year.

Put firewood inside, and write a big red note on it, "The energy is soaring."

At midnight, when the firecrackers go off, the fire will be lit.

After being lit, the flames spurt out from countless small holes, looking like a floating figure, which is both cold-proof and spectacular.

Adults and children gathered in a circle, some played games, and some set off firecrackers. All men, women and children came to warm themselves by the fire in order to "boost the sky."

Children can also walk around the streets and observe and comment on the size of the fire. Whose fire is bigger and more prosperous, and whose fire is more prosperous.

As stated in the "Datong County Chronicle" of the Qing Dynasty: "On New Year's Day, every family digs charcoal and cuts firewood to raise the base, which looks like a small pagoda.

When it is sent out in time, it is called vigorous fire. , that is, Dada Huo in the provincial capital.

"Nowadays, the custom of making strong fires has developed again in Datong.

Not only during the Chinese New Year, but also during weddings, funerals or major festivals. Some are for keeping warm in winter; some are for good luck in summer.

When it comes to the grand scale of Wanghuo and the exquisiteness of its shape, Huairen Wanghuo is the best.

It has four major characteristics:

1. Excellent coal preparation.

Pre-select high-quality raw coal before the Lantern Festival, dig it out mechanically or manually, and then carefully cut it into neat squares;

2. Beautiful appearance.

It is necessary to hire a skilled master to build the strong fire into the shape of a vase with a small base, a large belly, a top, and an empty interior. Only in this way can the fire be completely burned without collapsing;

3. Increase year by year.

In order to achieve the metaphorical meaning that one year is better than another, it is required that when building a prosperous fire, it should be higher every year than the previous year. The specific increase in size is determined by the owner's expectations;

4. Huge scale.

Every year, fifty or sixty huge fires are built on the streets of Huairen County. The largest one is made of 80 tons of coal and is three feet high, which is huge.

Every time the lanterns are lit during the Lantern Festival, all these powerful fires spit out long tongues of fire, licking the earth and the sky. The red light is dazzling and brilliant, just like flying dragons swallowing clouds and spitting fire, inviting people to swim in the beautiful world. It brings people the omen of "good luck" and "getting rich".

Therefore, crowds of people from hundreds of miles away come to watch the fire, and some people even circle the biggest fire three times forward and three times in reverse, in order to ensure the safety and good fortune of the whole family. It's done.

These prosperous scenes once caused a sensation abroad, and some overseas Chinese from Hong Kong and Macao and international friends also came to feast their eyes on it. This was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records, adding a new color to the Datong tourist area...

When people talk about Datong, people quickly think of coal and Yungang Grottoes.

These are naturally famous for a long time. Those who know more about Datong have also visited Shangxia Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall, Drum Tower, etc.

But as a Datong person who has lived here for more than 30 years, I just want to express my feelings about Datong.

When I was in elementary school, I would go to the Yungang Grottoes every year during the Children’s Day holiday. I didn’t see anything special about it, and I was already accustomed to its majesty and majesty.

As for coal, this black carbon is everywhere where we live. Every day when we light a fire, we have to smash the carbon first, so we are always somewhat blind to its existence.

Datong is located in the northwest end of Shanxi Province, in the Xingluo branch of seven counties and four districts.

In my understanding, the difference between Datong people is based on pronunciation.

People in Datong speak with a characteristic. They all pronounce sounds with or without retroflex, and there is no distinction between front and back nasals.

However, although people in Datong County also speak the dialect of Datong, they do not roll their tongues, and they emphasize it.

If you buy something in Datong, they will tell you: four yuan.

You have to ask clearly. You must add body language and gestures with your hands as necessary: ??Is it four? Or is it ten? Because the sounds of four and ten in Datong Mandarin are the same. of.

Datong County is not far from the city. You can grow some fruits and vegetables to supplement your family income, and your life is pretty good.

This is not the case in Yanggao and Tianzhen, which are far away from the urban area. The land there is barren and the farmers live in poverty and are frugal to the point of extreme poverty.

Zuoyun people, who grew up eating oat noodles and yam eggs, are accustomed to speaking with an accent.

Zuo Yun's man always has a simple and honest smile on his face, speaks very little, and bears everything silently.

Zuo Yun’s woman seems to be very eloquent.

I have always admired Zuo Yun’s woman, who can make so many different ways to eat oatmeal noodles: push them into nests, roll them into fish, shape dumplings, wrap stuffings, and roll out glutinous rice noodles. Stirring cakes, pressing cheese... If you are not an out-and-out Zuoyun person who was born and raised here, it would be difficult to make it.

Hunyuan County has the famous Beiyue Hengshan Mountain, the famous Xuankong Temple, and the delicious little daughter-in-law jelly. Hunyuan County is also a place where beautiful women are born, and they are beautiful and delicious.

Hunyuan people’s colloquial habit is to use the following words: 哔cyn.

That’s what it means.

In my mind, Huairen is also part of Datong, although Huairen has returned to Shuozhou now.

Huairen people do have "benevolence". Men value feelings, have stable and kind personalities, and women are tolerant, hard-working, and bear no complaints.

Huairen’s famous delicacy “Tanggansu” is also a must-have.

People living in the south of Datong are accustomed to calling themselves "people from Sichuan".

The people and land in Sichuan are located near the city, and the land is fertile. It can also be close to the city to increase other income, and it has a special cultural heritage.

Although people in Sichuan also belong to the suburbs, people in Sichuan are used to distinguishing themselves from suburbanites.

People in Sichuan like to build a neat and wide courtyard with a flower pond planted with cannas and roses.

They don’t grow vegetables like onions to people in the suburbs. They have vegetable plots.

People in Sichuan are also very frugal. When you walk into the courtyard, you will be greeted by a woman wearing patched clothes. Don't be surprised, she is the mistress of the courtyard.

Men in the suburbs are generally nonchalant about spending money, eating, and making friends, but they are also interesting. What they usually say is: go home and amuse your wife and play with the children.

Putting wives and children together also illustrates their machismo.

Women in the suburbs are particularly capable. They keep everything in order inside and outside the house. Although men put them on the same level as their children, they are still women at heart.

My fellow bosses like to dig into ancient times. If you ask for directions, they have four main streets, seven alleys, and seventy-two alleys.

Open your mouth and you will see East Street, West Street, South Street and North Street.

The word "jie" here is pronounced as "jie".

The most popular department store of the last century is also deeply ingrained in their hearts. The department store is not called a department store but a Hongqi Mall.

Men in Datong are very generous. They drink from tempered cups, and drink beer after drinking white ones.

When do you say: "You're not done drinking yet! Waiter! Bring me more wine!" That means you're already drunk.

The men in Datong are very handsome and dashing. They are used to spitting for pleasure. If you glare at him, he will say coolly: "If you don't spit, you will be quick."

p>

There are also many beauties in Datong.

When you are walking on the street, you are busy turning around. The tall one, the petite one, the pretty white one and the black one, the fashionable one, the plain and elegant one... Suddenly, you almost bump into the beauty in front of you, When you were panicking and at a loss, the beauty opened her red lips, smiled sweetly and whispered: "Chen Se!" You are so beautiful, you can probably stay beautiful for ten days and a half.

People in Datong eat one kind of food at weddings, funerals, weddings, openings, and all celebrations, and that is fried cake.

The meaning of cake is: promotion, prosperity, advancement, high official and generous salary.

Anyway, it’s all the good wishes that are related to Gao.

Cake is the most exquisite food.

If you come to Datong, the host will serve you cakes as a staple food, and you may not be used to it, but you must know that only when the host thinks you are a distinguished guest will he make fried cakes for you. .

Making cakes is very complicated. First, peel off the skin of the millet, grind it into flour, mix it with cold water into a block shape, spread it evenly on the basket and steam it. After steaming, guess with your hands (checked Bantian dictionary did not find a word matching the pronunciation of this dialect).

Guessing cakes is the most difficult job. I still can’t learn it. It’s too hot.

A good cake maker only uses cold water to cool his hands, without much water on his hands, and the cakes he makes are very strong.

Then, apply some sesame oil on the surface of the guessed cake, and a layer of small oil bubbles will appear in a while.

This is called vegetarian cake.

Some people like to eat vegetarian cakes, eating them with scrambled eggs or broth.

Cut the vegetarian cake into small pieces, wrap it with stuffing, and fry it in a pan.

That’s called fried cake.

There are many kinds of cake fillings, such as egg and leek fillings, soybean sprouts and carrot fillings, rose bean paste fillings, etc.

Making bean paste filling is also very tedious. You need to use specially selected red beans, cook them over high heat, and make the filling look red and taste soft.

Now it is convenient. Go to the supermarket and buy a bag of bean paste filling, which saves a lot of steps.

You can also wrap it in sugar, or fry it into slices, and sprinkle sugar on top after frying.

There is already a plate of red and green dishes on the table: mung bean sprouts mixed with vermicelli, how about it, are you greedy?

On February 2, the dragon raises its head, it is Datong One of the main folk customs.

In the old days of Datong, on the second day of the second month of the lunar calendar, early in the morning, each household would place the number of water-controlling dragon coins into the teapot according to that year. The so-called water-controlling dragon money refers to the first day of the first lunar month, that is, How many dragons are used to control the water; and then the number of dragons used to control the water is used to predict the prosperity of the year.

Each household carries a pot to draw water from the well. After the water is filled, it is sprinkled as they go. When they stop at the door of their house, they pour the remaining water and money into the water urn. This is called "dragon money".

At noon, every household eats noodles or potato vermicelli, which is called "picking the dragon's tail".

On this day, men, women, old and young, trim their hair, which is called "dragon heads up".

With the development of society, every household has access to tap water, and activities like "dragon money" have lost their function.

In my memory, my mother often buys a piece of white tofu on this day, peels off a green onion planted in the first month of the year, inserts a green onion into one end of the tofu, and inserts a coin into the other, treating it as a dragon, and places it in the water. Next to an urn or pool, bring water into your home.

Nowadays, the traditional custom of February 2nd is still the most popular one of hair-cutting and hair-cutting. On this day, many barbershops welcome customers in. When they come out, everyone looks radiant, and it feels like starting from scratch.

But most of them are men who push their heads a lot, and women who are stinky and beautiful and don’t have much to spare to trim them.

February 2 always feels like the end of the year and the beginning of the next year. Psychologically, I always feel that after February 2, the year is over.

However, with the accelerated pace of life and the indifferent Spring Festival, traditions and folk customs are no longer so important in people's minds.
