Now when it comes to the Cold Food Festival, many people may first ask, what is this festival? Why have you never heard of it? Only people who know about the Cold Food Festival know that there is a man named Jiezitui and the Cold Food Festival. That is to say, although the Cold Food Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day are only one day long, and the relationship between the two festivals is very complicated and close, people's understanding of it is completely different, and the Cold Food Festival will not be celebrated before Tomb-Sweeping Day, but we must know that the status of the Cold Food Festival in ancient times is comparable to that of Tomb-Sweeping Day.
First, the ancient festivals that have been circulated for thousands of years
The origin of the Cold Food Festival has been debated in ancient times. Generally speaking, there are two mainstream views. One is the story of the famous meson push. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Jin Wengong and Zhong Er were exiled to different countries. Jiezitui is a loyal minister around him. After Zhong Er acceded to the throne, meson pushed his mother to live in seclusion in the mountains. Jin Wengong ordered the release of Yamakaji to force him to leave, but he was burned to death with his mother. Since then, Jin Wengong has set up a Cold Food Festival to commemorate mesons.
The baby's name refers to the date of birth, combined with the principle of three talents and five grids, give the baby a good name, make up for the five elements and balance the eight characters.
The second theory comes from the ancient custom of "changing fire". It is said that in the distant era of tribal civilization, people put out the old fires every spring and get new ones by drilling wood for fire. When the old and new fires alternate, there will be a short period of no fire, and people can only eat raw food without fire, from which the Cold Food Festival comes.
In the existing written records, Huan Tan was the first person to mention the Cold Food Festival in Han Dynasty. In his book, he mentioned that there is a custom in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province today. People can only eat raw food on designated days, even those with diseases dare not violate it. This custom is to commemorate meson push. Cai Yong and other literary and historical figures in the Eastern Han Dynasty also agreed with Huan Tan that the prevailing customs in Taiyuan County were deduced by mesons. However, during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, people questioned that the Cold Food Festival was set up to commemorate Jiexiu. Especially in the Xuanzong period of Tang Dynasty, the Cold Food Festival was established as a national statutory festival, but it directly overthrew the idea of the Han Dynasty in the imperial edict, and defined the source of the Cold Food Festival as the ancient custom of "changing fire", which was no longer mentioned.
