How do Japanese people choose their names? Are there any changes or taboos in its naming?

First of all, the Japanese inherit a character from their father or mother’s name. Unlike the Chinese, the Chinese are used to avoiding family taboos when naming. They try not to use characters used by their elders or even homophones. However, the Japanese are just the opposite. When naming, they use the characters in their father's names to maintain a sense of inheritance. For example, the Kawachi Genji family and the Ise Taira family were prominent at the end of the Heian period.
