Wengyuan county is located in the north of Guangdong Province, southeast of Shaoguan City, and upstream of Beijiang River, a tributary of Beijiang River. Lianping County in the east, Xinfeng County in the south, yingde city and qujiang district in the west, Shixing County and Jiangxi Province in the north. -
In 554 AD, the Liang Dynasty designated Mianyang County as wengyuan county, which was merged into Qujiang County in the early Yuan Dynasty, and was relocated in 1303 AD. It is one of the earliest 16 counties in Guangdong history. -
Wengyuan county is dominated by mountains and basins. It belongs to subtropical monsoon climate, with an average temperature of 20.4℃, annual rainfall of 1778 mm and frost-free period of 3 12 days. Cultivated land area10.9 million hectares, woodland area10.63 million hectares, and forest coverage rate of 63 1%. The river is dominated by Wengjiang River, a tributary of Beijiang River, and its tributaries. The theoretical reserve of hydraulic resources is 6.5438+0.38 million kilowatts. Coal, iron, lead, zinc, tungsten and other mineral resources are abundant. The scenic spots include Donghua Mountain, Shuilong Palace, Xianshi Cave, Shutang Stone, Huxinba Hakka Group Building, Maoling Baguawei and so on. Crops are mainly rice, vegetables, sugar cane, peanuts and soybeans. Sanhuamei, Liuli Orange, Wine Xiantao and other fruits have a long-standing reputation, and they are the "Hometown of Sanhuamei in China", "Hometown of Chinese Wine Xiantao" and "Hometown of Orchids in China".

In the Neolithic Age, there were human activities in Wengyuan. During the Warring States Period, Weng Yuan belonged to the State of Chu. Nanhai county, Qin Wei. The Han Dynasty belonged to Mianyang County and Guiyang County of Jingzhou Prefecture. Jin belongs to Shixing County, and it still belongs to Mianyang. In the third year of Liang Chengsheng (AD 554), wengyuan county was located in Mianyang County and belonged to Hengzhou. Chen Ye belongs to Qingyuan County. Sui abandoned county is still a county. In the ninth year of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (AD 589), he set up the Guangzhou General Political Department in Shixing County, with Weng Yuan as his servant. Tang Gaozu Wude four years (AD 62 1), Weng's ancestral home was Zhaozhou, and he was born in Lili, Guangzhou. In the third year of Song Xuanhe (A.D. 1 12 1), it was analyzed that Li Anping in Lianjiang, Fujian Province and Wengyuan Taiping were juxtaposed in Fu Jian County, both belonging to Shaozhou, which lasted for nine years. After three years (A.D. 1 129), Fu Jian was abandoned and returned to Wengyuan peacefully. From the Yuan Dynasty to the fifteenth year of the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1278), Weng Yuan was merged into Qujiang and transferred to Shaozhou Road, Guangdong Road. Weng Yuan established a patrol inspection department called Wei Xuansi. In the fifth year of Dade (A.D. 130 1), wengyuan county was restored to Yingde Road. In the sixth year (A.D. 13 19), Wengyuan was merged into Qujiang. In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368), the county was restored in the last quarter and renamed Censhui County, which was the state capital of Shao Li. In March of the following year (it is said to be the second quarter of the same year), Censhui was renamed Wengyuan. The county name is still in use today.
Wengyuan's name comes from mountains and rivers. According to the records of Wengyuan County in Jiajing County of Ming Dynasty, there are famous mountains in the east of the county seat, which are majestic and beautiful, with Lingchi Mountain on the top, which was called Lingchi Mountain in ancient times (now Wengshan in Nanpu, Zhu Gui). There are eight springs in the pool, called Eight Springs, namely Yongquan, Hot Spring, Xiangquan, Ganquan, Zhenquan, Longquan, Yuquan and Ruquan. The spring won't dry up at four o'clock. There used to be two immortals swimming here, and the residents who drank its water lived longer. Springs converge into rivers. So the mountain is called Wengshan and the water is called Wengshui. Therefore, the county seat is named, which means the source of Wengshui.
In July 2020, the national patriotic health campaign committee reconfirmed wengyuan county as the national health township (county) in 2020.
In July 2020, the Ministry of Commerce announced the list of comprehensive demonstration counties of rural e-commerce in 2020, and wengyuan county was selected.
In June, 2020, wengyuan county was included in the second batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization counties (Guangdong area).
