Why did Yuci change its name to Jinzhong?

Let’s start in 1983. In July of that year, the administrative divisions of Jinzhong region were adjusted. Yuci County was merged into Yuci City, and Pingding County and Yu County were separated from Shanzhong and placed under the jurisdiction of Yangquan City. At that time, the Jinzhong region governed 1 city and 10 counties including Yuci City and Shouyang, Xiyang, Heshun, Zuoquan, Yushe, Taigu, Pingyao, Qixian, Jiexiu and Lingshi counties. In February 1992, Jiexiu County was renamed Jiexiu City. In January 1996, with the approval of the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, the Yuci Economic and Technological Development Zone was established. By September 24, 1999, with the approval of the State Council, Jinzhong Region was revoked and Jinzhong City was established. Jinzhong City governs Yuci District (reformed from Yuci City), Jiexiu City and 9 counties including Taigu, Qixian, Pingyao, Lingshi, Shouyang, Xiyang, Heshun, Zuoquan and Yushe. On August 2, 2005, according to the Shanxi Provincial People's Government's Jinzhenghan [2005) No. 126 approval, "Yuci Economic and Technological Development Zone" was officially renamed "Jinzhong Economic and Technological Development Zone".
