history and culture
Erduoyan fried cake originated in the Gengzi period of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (19). At that time, Beimenwai Street was Tongde Street Avenue leading to the capital, and there were the largest markets for dried and fresh fruits, leather goods, dyes and medicinal materials in the city.
Liu Wanchun, the first-generation shopkeeper of Erduoyan Fried Cake Shop, has changed from pushing a wheelbarrow around the Drum Tower and Beidaguan to setting up a stall on the street outside the North Gate at the west exit of Appraisal Street.
Later, Liu Wanchun partnered with his nephew Zhang Kuiyuan, rented an eight-foot-square facade in Beimenwai Street, put up the signboard of "Liu Ji" fried cake, and set up a fried cake shop. Liu Wanchun's sons Liu Yucai, Liu Yushan and Liu Yushu came into the store one after another. During the Japanese puppet regime, Erduoyan Fried Cake Shop was forced to join the Chamber of Commerce and was named "Zengshengcheng". The official title of Zeng Shengcheng is not accepted by people, but the nickname of Erduoyan has been passed down to this day.
