Lin Yutang

Lin Yutang (1894—1976), formerly known as Yutang, was born in Longxi County, Fujian Province. Ceng Dian (date of birth and death unknown), also known as Zeng Xi, was born in Wucheng (now Nanwucheng, Weizhuang Township) in the Spring and Autumn Period. Father of Zeng Shen, one of the 72 sages of Confucius disciples. It was enshrined with Yan Wuyou, the father of Yan Hui, and Meng Sunji, the father of Mencius, in the shrine at the back of the Confucius Temple in Qufu. The Analects of Confucius took him and Zilu, Ran You and Gong Xihua to sit with Confucius. When talking about personal interests, he "clanged" and stopped playing drums and harps, saying that in late spring, he put on spring clothes, took six or seven teenagers with five or six like-minded adults, went to yi river to take a bath, blew a breeze on the stage, and then sang back. When Ji Wuzi, a doctor of the State of Lu, died, Ceng Dian mourned for "singing against his door" and was called a madman of Lu. In 739 (the twenty-seventh year of Tang Kaiyuan), "Su Bo" was posthumously sealed. In 19 (the second year of Song Dazhong Xiangfu), the "Laiwu Hou" was sealed. In 153 (the ninth year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty), it was renamed as "the sage Zeng". Ceng Dian's tomb is in Nanwucheng, his hometown.

Zheng Banqiao

Born in 1693, he was a scholar of Kangxi, a juren of Yongzheng and a scholar of Qianlong. In 1742 (the seventh year of Qianlong), he was appointed as the magistrate of Fanxian County, and was also in charge of Chaocheng County. In 1746, he was transferred to the magistrate of Huai County. In 1753, he was dismissed from office and went home. He died in 1765 and lived at the age of 73. Banqiao is versatile, skilled in poetry, and good at calligraphy and painting. He is called "Zheng Qian's three wonders", and he is good at painting orchids, bamboos and stones, all of which have unique styles. Later generations called him, Li Yi, Jin Nong and other eight painters who gathered in Yangzhou to "lead the new and innovate" as "Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics". According to the history, Zheng Banqiao "knows Fan County, loves the people as a son, and has no regrets.
