Why is Anhui called Anhui?

Anhui and Jiangsu were once part of the same family. There was Jiangnan Province in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. In the sixth year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Later Qing Dynasty, an imperial edict separated the two provinces. Jiangsu was named Jiangsu after the word "jiang" from Jiangning and the word "su" from Suzhou. Anhui is named after the word "An" from Anqing and the word "Hui" from Huizhou.

During the Qing Dynasty, the provincial capital of Anhui was Anqing. Huizhou was originally a place of great wealth and was the economic center. After liberation, Anhui had set up the Southern Anhui Administrative Office (Wuhu) and the Northern Anhui Administrative Office (Hefei). Later, when deciding the provincial capital, considering that the economy of northern Anhui was too backward, the provincial capital was set in Hefei to stimulate the economy of northern Anhui
