Some of them are relatively simple. Yuzhong, as its name implies, is the center of Yuzhou. "South Bank" refers to the south bank of the Yangtze River. "Banan" refers to the south of the Yangtze River in Baxian County. "Jiangbei" refers to the north of Jiangzhou. As mentioned earlier, Chongqing was called Jiangzhou in the Han Dynasty, so the title of Jiangbei has existed since ancient times. It used to be a Ba county, and it was called Jiangbei Town, Jiangbei Town and Jiangbei County successively. Jiangbei District was located after 192 1 was merged into Chongqing. "Yubei" is named after being in the north of Chongqing.
Four more district names, interesting. First of all, talk about Shapingba. In ancient times, the Jialing River was choppy, and quicksand and mud stones deposited and accumulated to form dams. Gele Mountain is like a treasure knife. Cut it in half, with Tan Liang Dam in the west and Shapingba in the east. Shapingba, as we usually say, also refers to the eastern part of Gele Mountain, but the custom in China is to go east first and then west, so the whole administrative region is also called Shapingba.
Jiulongpo is related to a legend. It is said that Wang Laohan's family once lived here. Wang Laohan has nine sons. After he died, they buried him in a cave in the river and picked up nine pebbles and put them in. On a certain day, at a certain time, you will be successful if you go to town to kill an official on time. But Jiuzi procrastinated and didn't start on time. Instead, he failed to become the son of heaven in Kowloon and was regarded as a demon. Later, nine pebbles in the river surfaced to form a beach, just like nine dragons looking up at the sky. Gradually, the story of the Wang brothers spread, and this beach was called Jiulong Beach. Someone opened several shops on the shore, called Jiulong Store. After a long time, more people began to reclaim land on the slope, and this area became Jiulongpo.
The name Dadukou is very memorable. During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, Yidu was located in a place called Masangxi on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Baxian County. A ferry refers to a ferry donated by the people or the government for pedestrians to cross the river for free or at a low price. After the establishment of Yidu, people came and went, merchants gathered, and the scale was grand. To commemorate this grand occasion, people call this place Dadukou.
The origin of Beibei is the most interesting. Legend has it that in ancient times, there was a fisherman who had no wife. The Bodhisattva pitied him, turned him into a village girl, let the fisherman carry her across the Jialing River, and told him that he could not turn back anyway, secretly widening the river width to test the fisherman. The fisherman hasn't crossed the river for a long time, so he can't help looking back. In order to punish him, the Bodhisattva turned it into a stone and stood in the middle of the river. When other villagers heard about it, they all came to the river to look at the stones and commented that it was "going back in time". "North Stone" and "North Stone" are homophonic, so this stone is called "North Stone" and spread. Plus it is north of Chongqing, so this place is called Beibei.
