Hiking the Taihang Secret Realm: a life-and-death challenge on the thrilling northern ladder, and a panoramic view of the dangerous and beautiful scenery of the southern Taihang

The first night of hiking in South Taihang - I slept soundly at Wujiawan.

Before 6 o'clock in the morning, I was awakened by the sound of chickens crowing outside the window.

After washing up, I walked outside the B&B and took a breath of fresh air.

The gurgling stream and the clear chirping of birds flow across the silent sky, and the sound is heard.

The surrounding lush mountain peaks are covered with a thin layer of morning mist, making them hazy and misty.

"The noisy cicadas in the forest are more quiet, and the birds singing in the mountains are even more secluded." The morning in Wujiawan is indescribably lively and poetic.

After breakfast, we packed our bags, got on the car and drove further into the Taihang Mountains. Soon we arrived at the starting point of our official hike - Yushuwan Village.

This small village is located between extremely steep mountains. It is also very beautiful, but we were busy preparing outdoor luggage and did not have time to appreciate it. After being fully equipped with gloves, sunscreen, walking sticks, etc., we began to climb the famous Beibabajue Ladder - the focus of our outdoor hiking this time.

The general route of this hike is: Beibajue - Qixingtan - Hongdou Gorge - Baodu Village - Baligou.

It is said that there is an extremely classic check-in place for outdoor travelers at the front of this route - Shibatan.

There is a poem that says: The water in the cylinder shows ripples, and the cylinders are connected to the cylinders. The sky is embedded in the earth to create a whirlpool, and it is rare to see water rushing into a vat. Climbing with a lead rope is thrilling, but there are no joys and sorrows for you to enjoy.

We did not go to the Eighteenth Tank this time because it was difficult to climb, and there were both young and old in the team.

The Eighteen Tanks, as the name suggests, are 18 large tanks, 18 large pits formed by the erosion of rainwater all year round.

I found a few pictures on the Internet. After a while, it was really hard to crawl.

It’s officially climbed. At first, the road was bumpy but not dangerous. With anticipation and excitement for the unknown beauty, we were all full of enthusiasm and vowed to conquer this legendary and difficult-to-climb Beipa Stairway.

There are several cliffs hundreds of meters high and stretching for tens of kilometers in Nantaihang, forming a landscape feature of thousands of cliffs. The local dialect calls it "Jue", and the road to climb these cliffs is called "Pa". "The ultimate ladder" must be climbed with both hands and feet.

Nantaihang has the South and North Stairs, which used to be the main transportation route for people up and down the mountain. The ladder to the sky is located on a cliff, and it goes up in a twists and turns, which is steep and difficult.

This time we took the North Pajue Staircase. It is said to be much more difficult and dangerous than the South Staircase. It is known as the longest and most dangerous ladder in South Taihang. It is said that you can only go up but not down. The entire route Basically, you are walking hard on the cliff. Below are cliffs and abyss. You need to be careful at all times and be startled every step of the way. Because it is extremely thrilling, it is called one of the top routes in the South Taihang by travel friends.

The road is getting steeper. There is an abyss on one side, and you dare not look down during the climb. In some places, there are even abyss on both sides. Those who are afraid of heights should not even think about it.

This ladder was built in the fourth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. During this period, it was dangerous and dangerous. It had been in disrepair for a long time and few people walked on it. However, due to the continuous arrival of outdoor travelers in recent years, more and more people walked on it.

Jue Ladder lives up to its name. Climbing up the Beibai Ladder requires not only courage and perseverance, but also physical strength.

Continuing to reach high school, I finally climbed to a platform and took a rest. Looking into the distance, the scenery becomes more and more open and majestic. Looking up, the towering peaks are right in front of you and within reach; looking down, you can see a dry river running through the valley bottom, winding through the green mountains.

I think it should be beautiful in the rainy season.

We kept moving forward while panting, and with all our strength, we finally lifted my weight, which weighed more than 100 kilograms, to 850 meters. After we stepped on the Beipa Jue Ladder, we stepped on it.

Then we came to a small path embedded in the mountainside and clinging to the cliff. We clung to the cliff and moved forward cautiously.

Looking around, you can have a panoramic view of the Majedang Grand Canyon.

On one side is a cliff that reaches into the sky, and on the other side is a cliff with an abyss. The linear drop between the peak and the bottom of the valley has reached nearly one thousand meters.

The mountain walls on both sides are either as straight as a cut, standing thousands of feet tall, or rugged and intertwined, or have protruding peaks that stand out from the crowd. As the road twists and turns, the scenery changes with each step. It is really a "horizontal view" There are ridges and peaks on one side, with different heights near and far.”

The Magudang Grand Canyon, also called the Lingchuan Grand Canyon, is the deepest canyon in the Taihang Mountains and one of the most majestic and beautiful canyons in Shanxi. Every step you take will make you have a deep appreciation for nature. Shock, awe and worship.

Among the many magnificent scenery in the Taihang Mountains that are unknown to people in the mountains, Magedang is the most representative and attractive route, but it is completely in a primitive natural state.

Looking at the strong pines in the dim dusk, the infinite scenery is on the dangerous peak. When this majestic and beautiful scenery appeared in front of me, I suddenly felt that all the hard work was worth it.

At this moment, it is like being in an ambush on a cliff. The strong visual impact constantly shocks my soul.

This is an experience of "unity between man and nature". At this moment, I don’t want to think about the fight for fame and wealth, the noise and troubles. The soul is purified and worldly distractions disappear.

In front of nature, people are sometimes insignificant and can only be described as "a grain of rice in the ocean."

Only by taking the road that others have not walked can you see the scenery that others cannot. Because of the thrills and excitement, you will have endless aftertaste.

This was originally a vast ocean. Hundreds of millions of years of crustal movement turned this place into the towering Taihang Mountains that stretch for 800 miles.

The uncanny workmanship of nature has cut a majestic and majestic mountain into dozens of criss-crossing canyons. There are countless mysterious and wonderful underground wonders hidden among the mountains.

As far as the eye can see, there are sheer cliffs tens or hundreds of meters high, as well as deep canyons and twists and turns.

“The mountain clouds are filled with emerald green, ten thousand layers of light green and deep green.” Nature has created here a fairyland on earth with cascading peaks, continuous mountains, spectacular peaks, cliffs, fragrant flowers and green trees, misty clouds, high mountains and long rivers.

After a difficult climb, we finally reached the top of the mountain. The terrain on the top of the mountain is flat and open, the sky is high and the clouds are clear, giving you the feeling of seeing all the small mountains at a glance.

There is an abandoned stone house by the villagers on the mountain. It is simple and elegant, with many pear and apricot trees planted in the yard. We take a short break here to recuperate.

In this quiet and distant place, what kind of life do we imagine the villagers who once lived here lived?

At noon, we arrived at a post station that provides food, accommodation and rest for travel friends. We had enough hand-rolled noodles. The travel friends had been trekking all morning and were exhausted. They were already starving. It was a good meal. eat.

I remember eating noodles at Baquan Gorge last year. There were 10 people per table. We ate 4 large pots of noodles and were still not full. The storekeepers were shocked. I saw that Shandong people have really big appetites. They usually eat a lot of noodles in one meal. Three basins are enough for the table.

I wonder if the boss was shocked this time?

After eating, I took a nap upstairs for a while to recover my strength before moving on.

Ahead is the "Qixingtan" canyon, named after there are seven pools in the canyon. It has not yet entered the rainy season, so there is very little water in the canyon, and now there is only a thin flow of water.

As you go inward, the canyon shrinks and becomes narrower. The terrain becomes steeper and steeper as you go, with more and more faults. You can imagine the wonders of waterfalls in the rainy season.

After coming out of Qixingtan, I came to a grand canyon. The long suspended escalator made me feel familiar.

Isn’t this the Yew Grand Canyon? I've been here last year.

Hongdou Gorge is 32 kilometers long. It is deep and dangerous, with sharp cliffs on both sides, and the valley is warm and humid.

There are 25 turns in the 20-kilometer valley section, and tens of thousands of yew trees, a national first-class protected plant, grow on both sides.

Yew is a rare medicinal material. Can treat cancer. Hongdouxia has also become the only place where yew grows in the north.

What we are walking through this time is just one of the valleys. In the dry season, there is less rain, the valley bottom is dry, and the rocks are rugged, making it difficult to walk.

We jumped on the rocks.

The valley bottom is deep, cool, mysterious and quiet. Standing at the bottom of the valley, looking up at the blue sky and the imposing peaks, the huge gap creates a strong visual impact.

Dragging my heavy legs through the rugged valley bottom of Hongdou Gorge, and hobbling for another 2 hours, I finally arrived at my accommodation tonight - Baodu Village. (More next time)

Today I climbed 850 meters on a rugged and difficult mountain road, dived more than 600 meters, and hiked more than 30 miles. For me who usually doesn’t exercise much, it has already broken the record.

Although it is very tiring, I really gained a lot.

Compared with traveling, the fun of outdoor hiking is that you can have close contact with mountains and rivers, see scenery that most people cannot see, and experience the ups and downs that most people have never experienced.

Going deep into the challenging and unknown outdoors will also enable you to know yourself more deeply, understand yourself and even break through yourself.

Go into nature and listen to your heart. Feel the beauty of nature and release yourself.

The four seasons are like flowers, nature is in the heart. Flowers bloom sometimes, and there is no rest.

Life is beautiful and wonderful! Some beautiful things can only be experienced with a quiet and tranquil heart.

Let us warm each other, cherish the life journey of gathering and separation, travel through the diverse life trajectories, and span different mental journeys.

Life is a journey of cultivating the mind. Only by eliminating complexity and simplification can we return to nature. This is not true of life, but of everything in the world.

Entering the world or emerging from the world is a state, and the taste needs to be experienced alone.
