The original Yuanyuantang was Feng Zikai's dormitory in Yongyili, Jiangwan, Shanghai, when he was teaching at Lida College. In the early autumn of 1927, Master Hongyi, Feng Zikai's mentor, came to Shanghai and lived in his home. Feng Zikai asked his teacher to name his apartment, and Master Hongyi asked him to write many words that he liked and could match with each other on small pieces of paper, and made them into many small paper balls, which were scattered on the altar in front of Sakyamuni's portrait to draw lots. As a result, Feng Zikai caught the word "Yuan" twice, so he named it "Yuan Yuan Tang". Immediately ask Master Hongyi to write a banner, frame it and hang it in the apartment. Feng Zikai later moved to Jiaxing, and then moved to Shanghai, and hung the plaque of Yuanyuantang in his house. "It's still inseparable, as for eight years."
According to Feng Zikai, the Yuanyuantang at that time was only a "spiritual existence", and it was not until 1933 that it was really shaped. That spring, Feng Zikai used the accumulated manuscript fee to build a three-bay high-rise building behind his old house in Meishanlong, Shimenwan, Tongxiang County, his hometown. This is the real fate hall. Because the plaque written by Master Hongyi was too small, Mr. Ma Yifu was asked to write it again. Yuanyuantang architecture is extremely elegant, and it is called "a work of art", where Fengshi created and lived.
In January, 1938, Yuanyuantang was burned by the Japanese invaders. In February 1938, Feng Zikai, who was exiled in Pingxiang, Jiangxi Province, angrily denounced the brutality of the Japanese invaders after learning the news.
After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, Feng Zikai went back to his hometown to mourn the ruins of Yuanyuantang.
In the Qingming Festival in 1975, Feng Zikai revisited Shimen and once again paid a special visit to the Yuantang site. Since then, his health has gone from bad to worse, and in this year, he hurriedly bid farewell to this impermanent world.
In p>1985, Yuanyuantang was rebuilt with generous donations from Tongxiang Municipal People's Government and Master Guangqia, Vice Chairman of Singapore Buddhist Association. In 1998, Fengzikai Comic Book Gallery was built on the former site of Fengtongyu Dyeing Shop. Inside the wall outside the museum, Feng Zikai's cartoons are engraved. Reading these cartoons can make people see the warmth of the whole world.
