The Yuci City God Temple is located on the north side of the middle section of East Street in the urban area. According to the "Yuci County Chronicle", which contains the article "City God's Temple" written by Jin Zhongfu (a native of Yuci), the magistrate of Gongchang Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty, it can be seen that the existing City God's Temple was built after the demolition of the old City God's Temple to the east of Shanzheng Square in the original north gate. The Old City God's Temple was built in the 22nd year of the Yuan Dynasty (1362) under the leadership of Daruhuachi Timur. In the sixth year of Xuande (1431), Cao Xian, the magistrate of Yuci County, felt that the old City God's Temple was small and crude, so he demolished the old temple and built three main halls, three east and west wing rooms, and one mountain gate at the current location. In March of the twelfth year of Chenghua (1476), the scope of the temple was expanded. The original three-room main hall was moved to a place about eight feet away at the back as a dormitory hall, and five new Xianyou halls were built four feet in front of the dormitory hall ( Main hall). In the seventh year of Hongzhi (1494), Li Xuan, a native of Yuci, thought that although the temple hall was grand, the original wing rooms seemed very disproportionate in comparison, so he built fourteen wing rooms on the east and west sides. In the tenth year of Hongzhi (1497), Fu Ji, a native of Yuci, and others presided over the construction of a pavilion in the south center of the main hall and named it "Xuanjian Tower". In the fourth year of Zhengde (1509), Wang Song, a native of Yuci, presided over the construction of five mountain gates in the south of Xuanjian Tower, and all were completed in the sixth year of Zhengde (1511). Xuanjian Tower was rated as one of the 100 most exquisite ancient buildings in the world by the World Foundation for the Preservation of Historical Culture. Zuo Guiyuan and Li Yindao, both natives of Houyuci, presided over the construction of the music tower in the north and adjacent pavilion of the pavilion. In the sixth year of Jiajing (1527), Yuci natives Sun Wenzhi and Cui Zong built a barrier opposite the south avenue of the temple gate.
In the twelfth year of Jiajing (1533), Yuci natives Zhao Hong and Fu Chanming built an archway on the east and west sides of the mountain gate: the east is called "Bao" and the west is called "Zhaojia" . Two iron flagpoles were erected at the door, and two statues of gods were built in the eaves on both sides of the door. In the 39th year of Qianlong's reign (1774), a Taoist temple and a temple of wealth were built to the west of the temple. In the eighth year of the Republic of China (1919), Zhao Wenyun was responsible for the final maintenance of the City God's Temple.
