It borders the Yellow Sea in the east, the Bohai Sea in the west, the Shandong Peninsula across the sea in the south and the vast Northeast Plain in the north. The whole terrain is high in the north and low in the south, wide in the north and narrow in the south. The total land area of the city is 12573.85 square kilometers, including 24 14.96 square kilometers in the urban area and 58.89 square kilometers in the counties (cities) under its jurisdiction (including Pulandian District). The city's coastline is 22 1 1 km long, of which the mainland coastline is 137 1 km long and the island coastline is 840 km long.

Dalian is located in the warm temperate zone of the northern hemisphere and the east coast of Eurasia. It belongs to the warm temperate semi-humid continental monsoon climate and has maritime climate characteristics. There is no cold in winter, no heat in summer, concentrated rainfall and obvious monsoon. The annual average temperature is about 10℃, the annual extreme maximum temperature is about 35℃, the annual extreme minimum temperature is -28 ~- 18℃, and the frost-free period is 180 ~ 200 days. The annual rainfall is 550 ~ 800 mm, and the dry year is more than the wet year.
Hydrological characteristics:
There are more than 200 rivers in Dalian, including two major water systems, which flow into the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea respectively. The main rivers flowing into the Yellow Sea are Biliu River, Naying River, Zhuanghe River, Zanzi River, Dasha River, Dengsha River and Qingshui River.
The main rivers flowing into Bohai Sea are Fuzhou River, Liguancun River and Sanlipu River. Biliu River, the largest river, originates from the southern foot of Qipanshan Mountain in gaizhou city, with a total length of 156km, of which the reach flowing through Dalian is 100km, which is the source river of inter-basin water transfer in urban areas.
