Historical evolution:
The lake used to be supplied with water by Wanquan River, and the area around Weiming Lake belonged to Shuchun Garden in Qing Dynasty, and Qianlong gave it to his favorite He Shen. In this building, 64 towers, 357 verandahs and pavilions, and thousands of rooms are built, which is extremely extravagant. After He Shen was later raided, Shu Chunyuan changed hands several times.
In the Qing Dynasty, it was an artificial lake in Shuchun Garden, He Shen Garden attached to Yuanmingyuan. The stone boat was built according to the stone boat in the Summer Palace, but later the superstructure was burned down, leaving only a stone base.
Living water project:
Wanquan River flows through Haidian Town, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Dashiqiao from south to north, and flows into Qinghe through beijing-baotou railway, with a total length of 9.5 kilometers. The river is used to irrigate the surrounding green space on weekdays, and undertakes the task of urban sewage discharge in the 21-square-kilometer river basin in flood season. It is also the only water supply source for Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park.
With the increase of urban population, the scenery of Wanquan River is no longer beautiful. The massive discharge of domestic sewage from the cities around Wanquan River makes it a stinking river. At the beginning of the pollution control project, the thickness of silt in the river channel has reached .5 to 1.2 meters.
It is understood that the Wanquan River regulation project costs 72.8 million yuan, which is jointly funded by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Haidian District Government. The purpose is to make the Wanquan River flowing through Peking University, Tsinghua University, Yuanmingyuan and Zhongguancun High-tech Park clear, and make Fuhai in Yuanmingyuan and Weiming Lake in Peking University connected with it become a pool of clear water. The pollution control project started on April 18, 21 and has been completed.
