In the early years, bamboo buildings were mostly "dry fence" buildings, with bamboo as the main material, such as bamboo columns, beams, purlins, rafters, doors, walls, and even tile roofs in some places were made of bamboo. Just break the bamboo in half. Because it is mainly covered with bamboo, there are high railings, which are divided into upper and lower floors, so it is called bamboo building.
Bamboo House was originally unique to Dai people and the ethnic minorities living with them. Now, the use of bamboo buildings has been greatly expanded than before. Ethnically, the Dai people used to have bamboo houses, but now Jino, Bulang and Lahu people in Xishuangbanna and Dehong Prefecture, as well as Hani people in Yunnan and Miao people in Xiangxi, also have bamboo houses.
Geographically, bamboo houses are mainly concentrated in Xishuangbanna and Dehong Prefecture, but now there are bamboo houses in many areas south of the Yangtze River, especially in Sichuan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan and southeastern Tibet.
Legend of Dai bamboo house:
According to legend, in ancient times, there was a brave and kind young man named Pasan Yamuti in the Dai family. He wants to build a house for the Dai family, so that they will no longer live in the wild. But he tried several times and failed. One day, it was raining heavily. He saw a puppy lying on the ground. It rained heavily, and the rain ran down the thick dog hair. Deeply inspired, he built a sloping shack.
Later, the phoenix flew in and waved to him to make the roof herringbone. Later, he motioned to Paya Samuti in a high-legged independent posture, asking him to build the house into a two-story high-legged house. Paya Sammuti built a beautiful bamboo building for Dai family according to Phoenix's wishes. Later, it was handed down from generation to generation and became a beautiful and distinctive Dai bamboo building. This legend is still circulating in the mouth of the Dai family.
