"Journey to the West" tells the story of the third son of Tota Li Tianwang, who is also one of the disciples of Tathagata Buddha and serves as the Great God of the Three Altar Seas in the Heavenly Palace. When Nezha was born, there was the character "Na" on his left palm and the character "Zha" on his right palm, so he was named Nezha. He went to sea when he was only three years old and caused great trouble. He trampled down the Crystal Palace and caught a dragon to cramp and scrape its scales. The king of Tota was afraid that he would cause big trouble when he grew up, so he wanted to kill Nezha to avoid future troubles. Unexpectedly, Nezha became so angry that he took a knife in his hand, cut off his flesh and returned it to his mother, and removed his bones to return his father. A wisp of his soul went to the west to sue the Buddha, Tathagata. Use lotus roots as his bones and lotus leaves as his muscles to bring Nezha back to life. Later, Nezha wanted to kill the King of Heaven and avenge the evisceration. Thanks to the Tathagata who made peace with him and gave the King of Heaven a pagoda, so that Nezha could regard the Buddha as his father, the hatred between father and son was resolved. Nezha is young but has great magical power. He can transform into three heads and six arms. He rides on a hot wheel, uses a golden gun in his hand, wears a circle of heaven and earth on his neck, and has a demon-slaying sword, a demon-slaying knife, a demon-binding rope, a demon-subduing pestle, a hydrangea ball, etc. Six magic weapons with many changes. Whenever King Tota takes command of an expedition, Nezha will definitely go there, sometimes as a vanguard, sometimes as a general. He has surrendered ninety-six demons and is recognized as a young hero in heaven and earth.
"Feng Shen Yan Yi" said: One day Nezha went to the East China Sea to bathe. He placed the treasure "Qiankun Circle" given by Taiyi Master in the water and played with it, causing the East China Sea Dragon Palace to shake. The Dragon King hurriedly sent patrolling Yaksha to investigate, and Nezha was beaten to death when he got angry. Later, Ao Bing, the third prince of the Dragon King, mobilized the dragon soldiers to fight with him and was killed by Nezha. The Dragon King followed the Jade Emperor and captured his parents. Nezha beat him again in front of the Tiangong gate. Later, in order to show that his actions had nothing to do with his parents, he took apart his flesh and returned it to his mother and his bones to his father. After his death, his master Taiyi Zhenren resurrected Nezha's soul through lotus flowers. He was also given a fire-tipped spear and a hot-fire wheel under his feet. Later, he helped Jiang Ziya to rejuvenate the Zhou Dynasty and defeat King Zhou, and made outstanding military achievements.
In Buddhist scriptures, Nezha is the transliteration of Sanskrit Nalakuvara. According to legend, he is the son of Bishamon, the northern king of the Tao Wen Tian, ??among the four heavenly kings. He is one of the Buddhist protectors.
