Rong Mingfang’s biography

Rong Mingfang was born in Beijing in 1972. In 1995, after receiving a degree in economics from Harvard University in the United States, Rong Mingfang immediately returned to Hong Kong to join CITIC Pacific, initially as assistant to the general manager. A year later, he was promoted to manager of the real estate department. Afterwards, she worked in different departments within the group, such as business development and technology development, to gain more practical experience.

In 2000, during the Internet high-tech boom, Rong Mingfang also entered the Internet sea and served as the general manager of the group's technology development department. A year later, he was promoted to the director of the department. During this period, she established CITIC Pacific Information Technology Co., Ltd. and established CarNet, the first automotive website for Dah Chong Hong. Unfortunately, the Internet bubble burst, and Rong Mingfang's plan to spin off CarNet and go public was aborted, but she is still responsible for the group's technology projects to this day.

In 2005, Hong Kong’s economy was still in a sluggish state, and the Eastern Harbor Crossing’s application for a fare increase failed to be approved by the SAR government. Rong Mingfang led the company to start the contract on the grounds that the reasonable economic rate of return was 15% as stipulated in the contract. The arbitration mechanism submitted the fare increase application to international arbitration. The result was that the case was won and the return rate was ruled to be 15% to 17%. After that, the Eastern Harbor Crossing went crazy and increased the fare by 67%. Although the Eastern Harbor Crossing toll increase incident caused CITIC Pacific to be criticized by the Hong Kong society, Rong Mingfang's move won the approval of his father, Rong Zhijian.

Rong Zhijian once said that his children should be of the "faith" generation. However, during the "Cultural Revolution", he felt that understanding things and distinguishing right from wrong was more important than "faith", so he gave his children the "faith" generation. Named with the word "Ming".

In an interview with "Phoenix Weekly" in 2005, Rong Mingfang commented that his grandfather Rong Yiren "is a very fair and decent image, so I think for us, his attitude towards dealing with people is the most important. It’s worth learning.”
