The Untamed is adapted from the mo-scented novel The Father of the Magic Way, which is jointly produced by Penguin Pictures and New Media, directed by Wai-Man Cheng and Jialin Chen, and starring Shawn Shaw, Yi Bo, Zoe, Xuan Lu, Paul Yu Pin, Liu Haikuan, Wang Zhuocheng, Zhu Zanjin and Wang Haoxuan. With five families as the background, the play tells the story of Wei Wuxian, the son of Yunmeng Jiang's old friend, and the Gusulan family, including Lan, meeting again a few years ago and working together to find out the truth.
At present, the drama is scheduled to be broadcast on Tencent video on June 27th, 20 19.
The Untamed is based on the famous novel Father of the Magic Way. The original work was written by Mo Xiang and Tong Wen. The novel constructs a very huge world of Xianxia, with five families as the background and mysterious ghost hands as the introduction, which leads to Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, and then leads to the dusty past of thirteen years and the disaster that hundreds of Xiangoalkeepers will face after thirteen years.
Generally speaking, TV series adapted from novels will make some changes. The Untamed did change some settings in the play while keeping the main line. In an interview, director Wai-Man Cheng once said that The Untamed belittled "romance" and focused on "chivalry", which was not only innovative, but also had a "sense of youth".
