Zhou Enlai lived here from October 1944 to March 1947.
A house on the hill northwest of Zaoyuan is where the Soviet doctor Alov lived. At that time, in addition to treating comrades in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Dr. Alof also often treated and delivered babies in Zaoyuan and surrounding villages. Some local people named their children "Yuansheng" and "Yuancheng" to commemorate them.
A podium from that time remains on the other side of the river, where the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China often held conferences. On September 8, 1944, a memorial meeting for Comrade Zhang Side, a soldier of the garrison, was held here. At the meeting, Mao Zedong made the famous "Serving the People" speech.
